Owner was constantly yelling at the employees when we were there on vacation. One of the employees kept apologizing for the owners behavior even though the owner kept belittling the employees. The “vintage” items are over priced if they weren’t broken/damaged. You can honestly find better at Goodwill. (My friend got kicked out for videoing so took some screenshots off the video to post.) We tried the sandwiches which were overpriced and they didn’t really have anything in stock. The sandwiches were not worth the “hype” of this place. Honestly, you can make a better sandwich at home.

Aug 2023 Update: Always a great experience! The customer service is top tier and the sandwiches just HIT THE SPOT! This time was Turkey, pepper Jack & veggies on grain. SOOO GOOD! Still highly recommend! A perfect hidden-in-plain-sight gem! It’ll feel like you stepped back in time. This is definitely a must visit if you’re in the area. Service is super friendly and helpful… and the food is awesome. I had the roast beef with Swiss on sourdough all the way add horseradish… So so good. Highly recommend!

BEST SANDWICHES IN AUSTIN! Step back in time and enjoy Avenue B Grocery. This quaint historic century old store and sandwich shop is not only stocked with groceries and novelty items; this place makes fresh made to order sandwiches and has daily specials like homemade soup, chili and baked desserts. Local favorites are the King Ross sandwich and the homemade RPC pimento cheese sandwich. Fabulous! Add this to your sandwich bucket list for sure!

My daughter and I went here as an adventure, a step backward in time and she loved it for a good reason. This place is like a time capsule. And here’s what we bought: a kit-kat bar, a popsickle, a ring pop, 3 tootsie rolls, and a bag of chips. The total, $2.90. Come on, people who complain about the prices here! The people who can afford to live in Hyde park have to make 6 figures at a minimum! Support this place by patronizing it for the simple reason that a 7-year old loved it. She said, “I bet that guy just lived there and then turned it into a store.”

Yeah, that’s probably what happened and I’ve seen that guy there for a thousand years and now he’s thinking of closing up shop! What? How about this, let’s bulldoze his store/house and build another condominium there! Are you people crazy? Take your kids there and buy stuff because it’s not just a store, but a museum of a simpler, more innocent time. Tip the guy with 20’s, 50’s, 100’s. He should be making 6 figures at his store but he’s struggling to stay in business.

The owner took ice/snow out of his freezer and we threw it at each other and laughed and had a moment of pure joy, my daughter and I who can’t afford to live in Hyde Park anymore. Support this simple landmark for the sake of the owner, the store, the nostalgia, something pure, the joy of a 7-year-old, and the life blood of Austin.

Otherwise, we may as well sell all of our souls and prepare for our town to turn into downtown Detroit. Wait, downtown Detroit may have more life in it after its death than Austin. Am I being sensational, maybe, but hopefully it will make you think before giving in to your own soulless existence and keep Austin weird. That’s what the saying...

Normally I wouldn’t post this for a small business but this owner is unbelievably rude… Condescending to his young staff and customers alike. Came in to order some sandwiches to go and was kicked out for holding an iced coffee… not that there are signs that say that’s a problem. Didn’t actually tell us directly it was a problem either, just muttered to himself about his antique counters (no one was touching lol) then showed us to the door instead of taking our orders. Came here one other time about 6 months ago and he was berating a new employee so we knew something was off about him. Everyone has bad days so we figured give him one more chance, nope it’s just him! Oh and it’s not like he sells coffee...

Permanently closed? 🤷‍♂️ Been here 5 times during posted open business hours over the past 12 months... Never open even once. We tried to give it our final chance earlier today (Saturday at lunchtime, hours online show open). Called ahead to make sure they were open. No answer. We went anyway, knowing it would likely be closed as always. Yep, closed. Number five was the last time for us. Looks like a cool place and we have been excited for over a year to support a small local business. But I cannot recommend going because it’s always closed. Absolute waste of time. Also- after reading the other reviews… no chance I’d ever give this guy a cent. Apparently he physically kicked a customer and they’re...
