Read moreI absolutely loved this place. I was admitted to the psychiatric ward when I was 15. You start at lvl 5 and can work your way up to lvl 1 to get more privileges and freedoms. My parents were highly abusive. This place actually listened to me and gave me the help and resources I needed as an abused teenager who had been through more than he could handle. My only complaint was the food. But what can you expect from a state funded hospital? HUGE thanks to Austin state hospital and all the wonderful staff there in 2011-2012. They even re-evaluated me and determined that I was not in need of mood altering medications. They took me off of all the medications Brentwood hospital in Shreveport Louisiana had me on. I'm now 23 years old and have at successful career and a family of my own. I feel that ASH is in part responsible for my success because they are the ones that made me realize that I wasn't crazy and my life with my parents was not normal. I have very fond memories of this place. I would recommend this hospital to anybody...
Read moreI have stayed at this hospital twice, both stays I was treated with care, concern and respect and so appreciated all the time outdoors we got on the large beautiful patio. You are able to spend at least half your time outside about which was HUGE in my recovery personally, I'm sad the new hospital will not offer this. My doctors seemed to have very genuine concern for me and the staff was really nice. I highly recommend this facility. Only complaint is that in my second stay there was no hot water for the women left after the men showered on that unit. Some of the staff was really wonderful and advocated for us to have a rotation or to be able to shower in the mornings however. Otherwise best hospital I've ever been to and I've been to a few. Daily classes are available, access to computers a couple times a week and peer support...
