Giant Food — Local services in Ballenger Creek

My son who has Aspergers has worked at Giant Food, (Kingsbrook Crossing) in Frederick, MD for 2 years. His manager (Carrie Daggs)has been harassing and bullying him the entire time. She has discriminated against him, has given him limited hours (currently between 3 to 7 hours a week), and never let him change departments. She would say there wasn’t a need, but would hire new people for departments he requested to transfer to. She’s called him names in front of other employees, called him (actually screamed) a cry baby and told him to go home. She told Dylan in front of customers and other employees that Dylan was just a bagger and that’s all he will ever be.

I called Carrie last night and let her know the way she treats Dylan needed to stop. I told her we had contacted the Union, and would be exploring options as Dylan feels unwelcome there, harassed , uncomfortable, and scared. She said that he wouldn’t ever have that to worry about. I assumed she meant she would change her behavior and stop bullying him and being hostile. Within 2 hours Dylan called to say they accused him of stealing a .50 cookie from the bakery. Since Dylan has worked there if he gets hungry on break (he loses money and pretty much everything) he will get a clearance cookie or another small snack, and I pay when I pick him up. Well today security confronted him and took him to the back of the store and started screaming at him. Dylan asked if he could call me and they said no. The security guard said Dylan could leave when he said into a recorder that he planned on stealing the cookie. So he was scared to death and told them what they wanted to hear. The security guy told Dylan the truth would set him free. The entire time this was happening employees and managers were standing around laughing. He never left the store without paying. He would never do that. So the security guard escorted him off the property into the road, in the freezing cold rain and told Dylan to walk home. He knew his cell phone was dead. He said he isn’t allowed back on the property as he is suspended and if he comes back he will be arrested. This is why I will never shop at Giant Food ever again."

After reading this, there should be an investigation by corporate. I will not step foot in that store ever again. Wegmans can have my full business from...

I live near it and it always has what I am looking for within reason. It is easy to navigate aisles and find what I need in a short amount of time.

I also have used the pickup option within recent months because I can get what I need without spending much time in the store.

Improvement needed is for the ordering process of pick up items. Target tells me how much of a single product is available in inventory for me to purchase. Target also allows me to pick my substitute items for products I ordered that are unavailable. Whereas, you guys do not give me an option of picking my own product substitutions and I have no clue what items are not in stock until my order is completed.

Furthermore, unlike your competitor, you charge me for every paper bag used in my order and put only one item in the bag when there are other similar items that could also fit in the bag. Lastly, you choose not to place produce into a plastic bag when purchased. Last week, I received 4 tomatoes on the vine without a plastic bag protecting them. THIS REVIEW IS FOR 1700 KING FISHER RD NOT NEW DESIGN RD!!!!! The first thing I had to do when I first moved here over 20 yrs ago was go around to see if the places in Frederick would be willing to order and stock my medication! Most places were nasty to me !!! CVS pretty much kicked my out!!! So because of that I do not do business with them at all!!!But first on West Patrick ST and then on 1700 King Fisher Rd! I was open about all my info so they felt comfortable about getting it for me !!! They were willing to order and stock my med's!!! At that time I was on a high dosage of medications!!!! For the entire time I have been go there they have just been wonderful to me!! They all pretty much know me!!! !!! I will always maintain my loyalty to this Giant !!!The store is clean and if you need anything they will get it for you! Yes, they can be a little higher in something's but I have found that Giant Eagle is alot higher in just about everything!!! I only go there once in a great while!!!
