Iâm so disappointed with my experience with Old Town Gym. I was always a big Planet Fitness fan but decided to join OTG because it is much closer. My husband and I are both healthcare providers who were exposed to COVID several times over the last year, so it was very disappointing that the mask requirement was not enforced at OTG, and the parking lot was always packed which made me also question the capacity requirements. Due to these circumstances I expressed that I wanted to discontinue my membership with OTG- I was given a vague response that Iâd need to pay the $150 cancellation fee. I decided that I would just continue paying the monthly fee and not go at that point in hopes that COVID would possibly slow down and I would feel comfortable at the gym again. This was not the case so I had my account âfrozenâ, which the employee who froze it for me seemed as confused about the policies as I was, as they explained that I would not need to pay the last 3 months of my contract. This was untrue as I certainly was charged every month. I called several more times speaking with different employees who stated that my membership was up at the end of September and that I would no longer be charged. I was happy for this to finally end. Yet it is November and I am still being charged. I called AGAIN to inquire about this and was told I needed to fill out a cancellation form in order to end my membership. This was never communicated to me by the previous employees otherwise I of course would have filled out this form months ago considering Iâve been paying for a membership that was not being used. Overall I am extremely disappointed and saddened by this unfortunate experience, and hope that the employees can all get on the same page so that this does not happen to...
Read moreI am beyond disappointed in this gym as I called ahead of time to inquire of the membership. I informed the man that I was looking for a membership to a gym that was month-to-month and not for a specified time thereafter. He said they had the 69.99 membership for couples, and that would have worked great for us. Inform me that there would be no sign-up fee, and that it only cost the 6999 with the first month FREE. My first month I was charged $30. upon inquiring why I was charged, they informed me that I had to pay for my own key to the building. After attending the gym, I felt extremely judged, the gym was overcrowded, and there was nobody in the building to give me a physical key ( over an app only) OR to ask questions. I sent an email asking for details of the gym, how to get into the gym, know any information about the gym. I received no response. Then, after my first visit to the gym, I wanted to cancel my further membership.
I was informed, that I signed up for an entire year Membership and that if I did not pay for the entire year, they would send me to collections. They refuse to allow me to cancel the membership Saying that I signed a contract. I informed the man that I called ahead of time in order to inquire and make sure that this was not the case, and he told me that I simply signed up for the wrong plan online. He said he did not care and then I needed to pay for the entire year or he would send me to collections. I cannot believe that gyms rope you into such payments for only entering their...
Read moreFriendly staff here who seem to be trying to make a nice gym experience for the community. There are a few minor problems here: some of the equipment needs maintenance or replacement (e.g. Torn seats/pads, scraped paint, wobbly handle bars).
Also, there should be pool hours for kids and pool hours for adults or some way for the community to know when a pool party for kids is coming up. Yesterday, there were some permissive parents who were apathetic about their kids repeatedly doing cannonballs and splashing the faces of myself and other guests who were trying to relax or do gentle workouts. A few of us left when one of the adults threw sinking pool toys for the kids into the crowded pool and nearly hit a woman in the face. This is behavior of certain guests and not the fault of the staff, but something needs to change as lots of young kids spontaneously and unexpectedly having a pool party has happened before.
Again though, nice staff who seem to be community-minded, so have a look and see if OTG is for you.
6/4/17 Edit: I decided to change the review from 4 to 5 stars. I don't know if staff read the reviews or someone else independently voiced concerns, but it seems like more postings around the pool area or other changes have helped members develop some pool etiquette. In my humble opinion, the next step towards perfection for this gym is really just general maintenance/repair - replacing some torn equipment pads, tightening screws, painting scratches, etc. I'm pretty happy about this...
