Some instructors show up at the time the class starts, workout balls the small one are always flat, very dirty and no text or email regarding hour changes or events. They don’t offer the same classes the other YMCA’s do. Members are not linked to the other YMCA’s. This was piss poor planning regarding this take over.
Do Better!!
Update after Renovation:
Well they took some classes away and replaced it with a bunch of Power 40 classes a total of 22 it looks like. I have been told it’s like Orange Theory which I am not a fan of. Looks like 22 classes for the new class. They they moved some class hours where the regulars can no longer attend because we work and can’t rearrange our schedules in order to attend. The spin class room has a floor that is not for working out it’s more of an office floor. They still do not have mirrors that go all the way to the floor. The other workout room over by the weights they just put pain on and got new equipment. The weight room got new equipment. It seems that the only rooms that really got a lot of money in all of this is these power 40 rooms looks like a disco or a techno club. Oh and we got new sound systems. None of the existing members seem very happy with these new renovations and for most of us they do not fit our needs. A lot of us will be looking for another place to go and a lot have been going to this location for 20 years or more. They made it corporate with no regards to what the members wanted. YMCA of TN you are a disappointment. Your classes only last now 45 minutes. Why? Because you do not know how to plan properly? I am just so unhappy and I will be looking for another place that can fit my needs and I hope the others...
Read moreI love this gym, but I just wish I could use it. Every year for years, my family has purchased a summer membership so we can go to the YMCA pools and splashpads. Last year, my kids loved the Bartlett splashpad, and we went frequently. Our children are 5 and 2, so this is truly a perfect spot for us. I purchased our membership today and I was told it does not include Bartlett (after we had arrived at Bartlett, ready to go). The manager told me I shouldn’t have been able to come last year either. However, I had walked right inside many times and scanned in and no one ever said anything. I told the manager today it is disappointing being told you have access to all locations, only to learn you need to pay $12 for each family member for the main location you want to use. If this is the rule, I get it. My husband worked at the Y for a number of years. I understand they have rules. What I don’t understand is why the website clearly says this pass includes access to all locations, and why when I called the other day to confirm it does include Bartlett still (I had heard it had changed), I was reassured that my splash pass would include all locations. I left today with two very upset little boys. I also can’t get a refund because all sales are final. It is hard driving to Millington and Collierville for the no-entry pools that are best for my toddler. :( They need to make this very clear on the website and train the employees with the correct information because this is confusing. Maybe this center should not have become a Y if it isn’t going to have the same rules as the...
Read moreFor a recreation center, the information they ask is ludicrous, offensive, and too personal. I came in with my husband to register so the person taking care of our 18 month old child could bring him in once a week to swim. They seem to have freaked out a little about this arrangement and told me that we would have to get a separate membership for the person. My husband has a climbing gym membership and was not impressed by the facility and had no use for it so he did not care to join. Although, I have a much better facility at my school and no use for this center as well, I wanted to join with our child care taker so she can again bring our 18 month old for a swim once a week. They informed me that only my husband name was on the deed of the house and I should bring proof of address. I understand a need to show proof because of the price difference between resident and non resident. I was really disgusted they asked me to show proof of relationship to my toddler that’s still nursing. If I brought 5 children with me for a family membership I understand but for one child it’s absurd. I decided I did not want them to see my child’s birth certificate if the airlines do not ask for this, I don’t understand why I need to bring it to a freaking rec center. Also the membership for the non impressive pool to use once a week is not great use of money. The daily pass of $20 to bring in a child under 2 to swim is also absurd. We have a membership to many different things in Memphis for our child’s activities and never felt what they ask for is...
