When this was a Cinetopia theater, it was pretty good. Not perfect, but very little to complain about, especially if it was your closest theater. They had great things like:
Plenty of showtimes where if you just showed up about 10 minutes early, you could have an order taken from your seat, delivered to your seat, for the cost of the food and a requested tip. This was one thing that really set Cinetopia apart, as their whole menu of food and drinks could be brought right to you with no inconvenience as the moviegoer.
A self service ticket kiosk so that at the end of it all, you potentially wouldn't wait in a single line over the course of the entire experience.
Food wasn't absolutely amazing, but it was certainly good enough to warrant ordering.
Since AMC has taken over, they basically got rid of all of this, along with eliminating things like 21+ showings. They've replaced all of it with near overwhelming disappointment. If Cinetopia was a premium theater experience, you can be sure that AMC has rubbed the lack of charm of a large theater chain all over it.
Since going on June 2nd, right after the theater reopened, the experience has been and stayed disappointing. It was excusable enough back then after they likely lost staff during the transition, had to train employees in AMC programs, and had to reconcile changes to a theater designed around explicit purposes that AMC has no interest in continuing. The problem is, a month and a half later, the theater is still basically in the same state it was at the beginning of June.
The theater is woefully understaffed, so already good luck with concessions. If there's actually a line, you're better off foregoing concessions completely unless you like spending 10 minutes in line to move up a single spot.
They inexplicably removed and have not replaced the self service ticket kiosks, so you have to stand in line at the box office or just give up and walk in if you bought the ticket online like most people do anymore.
There still was not a menu up at the concessions counter as of last night. It looked like they finally had one up, but hadn't actually uncovered it yet. The incompetence that has gone into the transition is easiest to see when they couldn't even get a menu up in the better part of two months.
Stack my complaints against the others in the reviews here, and it paints the picture of a once quality theater being tossed into the trash as AMC puts forth the bare minimum effort to operate a theater.
I honestly can't recommend this theater if you can easily go absolutely anywhere else. Check out the Regal in Tigard if you want a theater close enough to AMC that actually offers a fairly...
Read moreMy original review was from when this was Cinetopia in it's first year of business. I have now been here for the second time in 2021, a few years after AMC acquired the theatre and completely redid it's overall layout.
It's atmosphere is strange, rather than warm & relaxing like it's first year as Cinetopia, now having a very old, dark warehouse vibe and look to it. Lots of wasted space too. It's far darker than most theatres are as well, which only adds to it's strange vibe. The layout now makes less sense overall, and I am rather confused by their choice to put the men's bathroom at the very end of the hallway to the main theatres, rather than use the usual layout with the men's being placed next to the women's.
I am basing this review now off of my latest experience in June of 2021. They had signs plastered on every single one of their excessive count of doors also saying you are not allowed to wear a bandana as a mask there, but fortunately, they never said anything nor made a issue out of my brother wearing one. They also say on their websites that only people fully vaccinated can go maskless in the theatre, but personally I am happy and thankful nobody, not even the other people in the threatre cared and most pulled down or took off their masks once inside the theatre room. This of course may be interpreted as absolutely terrible by many, rather than a good thing by those of us like myself. So it makes sense to make note of in my review.
All that said, the pricetags for any snacks or drinks is the expected immorally high levels we all know & expect from all theatres, and is not worth wasting your money on. Tickets are about average price.
Overall most theatres in my opinion across the westside top the experience and atmosphere of this one now, even the likes of the cheap seats of Valley and Joy in Beaverton and Tigard, respectively. But it does the job, thus, three...
Read moreI went to see Oppenheimer, I booked a ticket online for 6:10, we decided to get there at about 6:15 as trailers and ads usually play for 10 minutes. We go to the front desk he scans the QR code on my phone, hands me the ticket and says go to cinema 1. I get to the cinema and I notice the movie is already playing, there's no trailers and it seems like the movie is in the middle of the movie, I love Christopher Nolan and there's no way he would start a movie like this. I leave the cinema, go the front desk and say to the dude who checked us in "hey man I think the movie is already halfway through, and there were no trailers, are you sure it didn't start earlier?" he walks with me to the entrance of the cinema and goes to look at some screen and tells me no it started at 6:10 you're fine. I stupidly take his word and continue to watch the movie the whole time in the back of my head thinking I've missed the whole movie. Then at 7:45 the movie ends when it should be a three hour movie, I now know for sure I've missed the first 2/3rds.
I talk to him after letting him know we missed most of the movie, it did start way earlier and he doesn't seem to care much or acknowledge the mistake. Then he gets a manager and while talking with them we realize when booking online the movie was booked for the previous date, I must have messed up when picking the date via google. I get that was partly my fault I own that, but the main thing is the people working there should have known that the movie started 2 hours ago and not sent me to that cinema in the first place, even after I left the theater and told him I think it's the wrong time he still looked at a screen and told me it started at 6:10 and sent me back in, that's what frustrates me the most.
The one positive is I asked for tickets to watch it again another day which they gave me and I...
