Ordered pho and bun to go. Asked for no peanuts or bean sprouts on one bun. Not only was our order prepared correctly but the box without peanut or bean sprouts was marked. The pork bun was nicely grilled and seasoned, the carrots and daikon was pickled, and the cucumber and lettuce has some of the pickled juice on them. I neglected to order rice and so got the default vermicelli with the bun. It was good, not overcooked, but I do prefer rice (personal opinion). Our pho was really good, tender beef, savoury broth; it was served with big chunks of jalapeno, nice stems of purple basil, and crispy bean sprouts. Inevitably, there are some less than perfect veggies (wilted or browned) in restaurant meals, but not with anything in our order. That's alone would send me back to Pho Nam. It's an indicator that the kitchen is making a really big effort to clean and prep the produce received. We also ordered crispy egg rolls and wonton wrappers stuff with meat and veggies. They were very good, especially the wonton wrappers. All in all, it was a tasty, relaxing, Saturday night dinner spent cocooning at home with good, hot food for a reasonable price (3 pho, 2 bun, and 2 appetizers for $62). We...
Read moreStopped in because we were in the area and it was lunch time. Ordered salad rolls and pho Tai Nam. Salad rolls were disappointing. Filled with rice. No rice vermicelli/noodles. And as you might imagine, without noodles, they fall apart with every bite. Also, no julienned carrots or chopped lettuce. Rice and shrimp and almost nothing else in a rice wrapper. And the peanut sauce was basic, but pretty flavorless.
The pho BROTH was delicate, nicely, if lightly flavored, and good. But the add-ins were insufficient. Two jalapeño slices for two bowls. Not enough to even taste, much less spice it up. Bean sprouts and Thai basil was in relative abundance, but I am used to onions, either sliced in the bowl, or chopped green onions on the side to sprinkle on top.
Overall, it felt like we were eating in a restaurant that was losing money and couldn't afford to make a complete dish. Or had run out of several key ingredients and neglected to take the items off the menu.
Not good and not worth...
Read moreThis place is a secret gem. The bland and non-chic atmosphere probably deters people from entering but the food is surprising good. Itâs one of our favorite places to go and Iâm happy thereâs always a seat.
The pho here is pretty solid, good broth and flavor. The wonton noodle soup is tastes like itâs straight from Chinatown nyc where I grew up.
The salad rolls and peanut sauce are my sonâs favorite⊠simple with no fancy veggies other than lettuce. This is important if you are looking for a taste of home vs the next trendy culinary experience.., the salad rolls next door at the Thai places doesnât quite cut it.
As for the Thai dishes like pad Thai, theyâre ok here but Iâd head next door for that if i want better. Only my husband orders those things here bc he doesnât like soup, but I would probably aim for more Viet and Chinese...
