the last storm destroyed my car battery, and realizing costco sold car batteries and that i am a member i went to get a replacement.
i went in and was told i needed to pull the battery out of the car and walk it in. they would sell the battery but not the install. so i went out and due to a design choice by ford, i was unable to remove the battery. it needed a wrench which i didnt have. so i left to get the wrench and do my other errand for the day and got stranded.
after being stranded for several hours i was able to jumpstart the the car with the aid of a helpful neighbor.
i went back the next day after looking through all the user materials provided by ford to find out what battery i needed. and returned to this costco and since i wouldnt be able to start the car if it went off, i went up to the tire installation bay with the car. and tried explaining the situtation to one on the workers hoping that the other worker had been misinformed. he interupted me mid sentence. instead of letting me roll my car into one of the tire replacement stalls for them to install the battery or allowing me to install it myself, he told me to leave. so i did. and i am considering canceling my membership over this.
unacceptable, unprofessional, and unaccommodating. costco should not be selling batteries if they wont help customers identify which battery they should be buying. twice now i almost got stranded by giving them my business. and one time i actually did get stranded.
batteries plus on farmington may have a battery you want, and they will offer to install it for an upcharge. if you need a battery for the vehicle you are using at the moment, and dont know if you will be able to start your car in the costco parking lot if they dont have your specific needed option- you should look elsewhere.
it isnt about cost but opportunity cost. if you get stranded how much time will it cost you? how much is that time worth? costco may supply the product, but is the lack of customer service worth the difference in price? also even if you dont get stranded, if you have to walk back and forth across that giant parking lot several times in order to simply make your purchase, because they dont have parking spots for battery changes near the department- is that worth it?
costco should focus on core strengths and competencies. if they want to expand into auto parts- that is fine, but just like they have different department sections in the building, they should have departments spill out into the parking lot. near the semi truck unloading area they could have those spots far from the main entrance also get used by people wanting to install costco sold car parts onto their cars. they can have a dedicated tire rotation section of the store. but having a different parking lot facing part for installing and replacing other parts would improve the customer experiance.
i am upset at how rude the employees are. but i am also upset at how badly designed the departments are. the idea that a place which sells car batteries will get people stranded on purpose is appalling. when people roll into the parking lot thinking a business will be able to help them because they present themselves that way, and the customer leaves not only unhelped but in a worse position than before- there is a betrayal of expectations. they should either focus on general bulk purchases, or they should offer
succinctly stated, there are no words to adequately derogate this company's...
Read moreThis is my go-to Costco. I've been going here for almost 30 years and I've even had family members who have worked here. It's funny because this Costco is the only Costco that's unlike every other Costco. What I mean by that is their entrance and exit are reversed compared to every other Costco, the tiger, the Hillsboro, and the other Costco that I've ever been to always has the entrance on the left side but for some reason and actually for a good reason the entrance is on the right side here this Costco. Some things to note is that over time the service here has gone down. One of the worst things is the amount of self-checkhot stands. Retail businesses think that this is beneficial, but they don't understand how much people hate them. In reality, almost no one would choose to go through self-checkout, especially at Costco. Considering that they're buying items in bulk and everything would at that point becomes heavy. It doesn't make sense to have self-checkout in the number of self-checkout stands that they have for people who are shopping like this right? No one wants to have to lift it all up, scan it themselves, stack it in a box and then these self-checkout stands are extremely temperamental because unlike at other places like Walmart they literally expect you and wait for you to put the product in the wings area and it's very temperamental as soon as you move anything around or if you had a boxer bag or whatever. Anyways, this is one of the worst parts about Costco's changes and I wish they would go away from this or again at least lessen the amount of self-checkout stands. Along with that Erica, there needs to just be four to six more people at the checkout stands to help people check out. There has never been a time. I've gone to Costco where there's not a line. Even with the self-checkout stands, this does not make sense that they would not have more people staffed. Then they're clearly making enough business to have people staffed. They're just trying to align their pockets more by staffing less people there. Along with the service going down in that regard, the returns process has become far more tedious. Costco is known for their great customer service and their lacks return policy which allowed people to return things for essentially any reason and nowadays that's gone away. I've tried to return products and been given a heckled answer and response about things saying that they've been used for too long or that the return policies only there for the life of the product that's not listed or said it anywhere. And although my return was eventually honored, it's extra steps to make customers jump through hoops to do this, especially when Costco is known for the ease of return of policy. Between these issues, my rating has gone down. Otherwise this would be a five-star rating. I love this Costco. I know many of the staff here and they have seen me grow up from a child into an adult who has their own children as well. It sucks it service has gone down because management incorporate policies which could easily be addressed and fixed if they would listen to...
Read moreWhat a disappointment. I've heard so many good things about costco membership services, but had a TERRIBLE experience. Became a member a few months ago, and everything seems normal. Only hiccups come at the food court. I tried to call ahead for a pizza....couldn't connect...go in, the wait is 25 min.
Don't have luck calling in again.
So every time I just go in and expect a 20-30 min wait.
Friday 1/11/25 i go in at 5:10. I order 2 pizzas, and wait. I needed to be home by 6 (I live close). At 5:40, my number still isn't called...i ask them if I missed it...
"Was that a phone order?" Nope, paid for it right there. "Oh we thought it was a phone order. I can have them start it, it's about 35 min."
What??? The heck. Nope. Gotta go home, please refund.
Go to the membership service as I decided screwing up 5/5 times I've tried to order a pizza there is my limit. I ask for a manager. The guy says ok, but clearly in no way wants to hear my issue.
I young lady comes up asking if the manager came.... nope. I try to tell her what happened.... she doesn't care.
Then the manager came up. Some lady....looked PISSED I was bothering her. I tried to explain that everytime I get food theres an issue, and that's why I went 40 min early. Because I knew something would go wrong. She did not care at all. She entered whatever she had to to let the other lady process the return. The manager did not care ONE BIT about hearing what the issue is, even though I clearly wanted a word.
Then they "can't refund mastercard" so they give me cash....cool. now I get an extra trip to the bank....
So why am I so annoyed? Mistakes happen.... But....
They had like 10 pizzas ready to go, i don't get why they didn't offer those and refire for someone who wasn't there yet.
not so much as a "sorry about this". Manager just seemed so ANNOYED that I couldn't wait another 35 min and needed a refund instead, then walked away refusing to listening to anything. I've heard how amazing the member service was, so this was surprising.
5 times. Literally 5 times i have never been able to call and pick up, or walk in, order, have them call my order number and leave. I've had 2 orders just wait....never called, and after the 25 min quoted time, they pull it up, and it's cold by the time I'm home. I just don't get it. It's annoying, and the total lack of an apology for wasting my time...
