This was a beginners class, but the instructor (Ido) didn't really treat it like that. He wasn't patient and he didn't help much throughout. I called the instructor for help and he'd say “what do you need help with” and would just say “make it more left” instead of actually showing me how to do it. On the 2nd try, I called him over and he said "you didn't ask for help before and it's not centered" so I was asking for solutions and I said "can you help me with what I have and he said "no". It was apparent that I was struggling since I was the only one after 1 hour that hadn't done any bowls, and he not once came over an helped the student who was struggling (as a teacher myself, that is what you should be doing in the classroom). You shouldn't be leaving the student who is having a hard time struggle, but you should guide and help...
Read moreI have been so impressed with my classes at Indigo Fire. The teachers share their expertise and talk to all of the students as fellow artists/craftspeople. Owner Ned Levering has dedicated his life to this small business and is always there-- mopping the floor, running the kilns, mixing glazes, building new shelving... he is truly committed to sharing his love of pottery and has an amazing internship program for Belmont High students. I have never before worked in such a clean, well-organized community art studio that has such a generous studio policy: all students who are enrolled in semester-long classes have open access to the studio during business hours. Highly recommend!! I have only been taking classes here since January and have already learned so much. Indigo Fire is certainly a treasure...
Read moreI attended an early bird workshop on May 20th, which was $45 and included 2 hours of studio time as well as 1 pot (which the studio glazes and fires for you, and you can pick up in a month). This was a well paced and skill-inclusive workshop. The first 20 minutes or so were general instructions for how to get started on the wheel, after which we tried it on our own. Our instructor was very friendly and encouraging to all who attended! I really enjoyed it and have already invited my friends to come with to try out working with clay. I wasn't sure what to expect since it is a (relatively) affordably priced workshop, but the instruction, ambiance, and materials were all very high quality! 100% recommend for artists of all...
