It was quiet when I entered. No sound was heared from the inside of this establishment. I looked around, and if I hadn’t seen the employee, now greeting me with a short smile, submerging from the dimness beyond, I would have come to the conclusion that they were closed. But I was wrong! Peninsula Sports Cards is open and in business! The store is very organized and clean, the only thing missing of course were the customers. But this is understandable, as many smaller businesses have suffered the same faith, as a result do to current conditions and restrictions of the COVID 19 devastation. And it doesn’t help, that this place is practically “squeezed “ into the deep corners of this otherwise cute and modern plaza, right off of El Camino Real in Belmont. Lighting! Advertising! Larger presenting of ones business and services/ offerings!! Easier said then done! These days anyways, when income and budget aren’t “in speaking terms”! Due to our current condition! I came to look for a small, unique birthday present, that I wanted to attain, for a close friends son, as his 8th birthday is nearing. I didn’t really look to long, the atmosphere was Erie. Even though the owner, yes, a second person at Peninsula Sports was very friendly. He had a look in his face that clearly reflected, that he’d rather be somewhere else! Understandable! The experience at Peninsula Sports hadn’t been the same, as I had visited a few years back, when the place was “jumping”, filled with happy youngsters and their parents, the sound of their laughter echoing from the walls! Best of luck Peninsula...
Read moreWe frequently visit this store with my son. This past visit, the store owner with the long white beard kept following my son around looking over his shoulders as he was exploring the store collection. Initially I thought he was trying to help but he got angry at checkout. Then he proceeded to say that he’s rather not have my son ever come into the store. Confused, I interjected and when I asked him what’s wrong he said my son was touching the packs and would ruin them. What!?!? How else is somebody supposed to checkout collections.
I said I understand, but let him know that was no way to talk to a young kid. If he had a problem, I was nearby and he should have let me know. He further escalated his tone and which point I told him we won’t be buying what we had picked and be subject to such indecency and rudeness. He further escalated it and told us to take a walk out of the store.
I have never experienced such horrible customer service and rudeness targeted towards kids! Do yourself a favor, stay away and keep...
Read moreHorrible customer service. Called to make sure they had the correct sets that I was looking for and got a snarky response “I can’t tell you that information, you have to come in?! What kind of bs response is that. Also they closed 20 minutes early after I took a long Trek over here and was completely ignored. Jordan who I’m pretty familiar with from past years used to be great but this card shop has gone to complete dumps. Not only is the customer service bad every time I encounter this place but their prices are obscenely inflated. Was going to spend over a rack on booster boxes but I’ll take my business elsewhere. Try coast cards in half moon bay or gametime in Santa Clara. Those are the shops that are going to thrive in the future. Unfortunately this one will definitely be closing due to these circumstances and how they treat customers. 0 stars...
