Hongry Kong puts in a solid effort to make Hong Kong cafe style food, and it's pretty decent. I think it has the potential to be something great, but it's not quite there yet.
I had the curry beef brisket and tendon over rice, an egg tart, and milk tea. The beef brisket and tendon was mostly tendon, which is fine with me. I love me some tendon! For $8, I do believe that there should have been more brisket though. The beef was a bit rough and stringy and wasn't that flavorful on its own, but the spices in the curry helped lift it a little. There's also some carrots and potatoes mixed in. I did like that the potatoes were fried before being added to the curry. They had a deep fried flavor that mixed well with the spices. Imagine home fries smothered in curry. It was a welcome surprise, since I didn't expect that from a food truck. Heck, not many brick and mortar cafes do that. There's a healthy portion of rice underneath too, which kept me adequately satisfied. With a little work, this could be a real winner.
I definitely wasn't expecting the egg tart to be Golden Gate Bakery status, and it's really not bad. The crust is pleasantly light, crispy, and flaky. The egg custard is smooth, although it could be sweeter and have a more eggy richness. Overall, it's good enough to hold its own. I don't know if it's a deal at $1.25. In terms of food truck prices, I guess that's around the right range.
The best part about this truck was the milk tea. The rich creaminess gave it a full bodied mouthfeel, and the tea was brewed strong enough to give it a bold, robust earthiness. The finish was just slightly harsh, and it's almost borderline too sweet and heavy, but it's a solid milk tea by Bay Area standards. I recommend that you order it without ice so it doesn't get diluted. I just wish there was an option to order it hot.
I would rate the food in the 3 star territory, but I feel like giving Hongry Kong 4 stars because of the milk tea. That's how much milk tea...

Where you can find quality handcrafted food. I loved everything I’d ordered. From dim sum, milk tea, white sauce, marinated pork ribs and chicken feet, baked egg custard, to specialty traditional Hong Konger soup of the day! I cannot express enough how grateful I am to have experience this taste again, I left HK back in 2006. This place tasted like home, my childhood, I wonder if they are from Kwun Tong too!
Thank you Hongry Kong for delivering amazing memories to me. I had already placed my second order. Spread the word out, hope you continues...
Read moreMy Chinese friend was not impressed with the dim sum at the mall, so I did a search and found this place.
Almost drove right by. Then rang a doorbell and waited. Already knew the food would be good because that is the focus. They mostly cater.
Beautiful veggie buns. Usually do not eat meat but stole one of my daughter's pork buns to try. So good. My girls were very impressed by the pretty shrimp dumplings. Of course they wanted to eat their flaky egg custard pie first, but used restraint!
Best find all year. Need...
