Mod Cabinetry (T-F Walk in/Appt. + Saturday by Appt.) — Local services in Berkeley

Modifying my review: It turns out the issue was our contractor. They kept telling us they'd reached out to Mod and received no or unsatisfactory responses. The contractor is the one being unresponsive, since the warped side panel on the cabinet is installation related, and this contractor doesn't own their mistakes - they project them onto others. It's a common theme with them. Mod however was great after seeing my initial review below. They reached out immediately to discuss all issues and offer assistance, even with the installed cabinet's side panel issue. They provided a solution for everything I've listed below and I'm so pleased with their support. So, If you're looking for cabinets that come right the first time, they mostly will, but even if they don't, Mod it turns out, has great customer service.

Original review which in hindsight, isn't wholly fair: We used Mod in our kitchen and master bath. In the kitchen, I've fiddled for hours, removing drawer fronts and playing with the Blum hardware to get the reveals to align and the drawers to close properly. I have one more cabinet that I guess I'll need to remove and reinstall the drawer glides to even get the drawer closed. The installers had done this same job once, but for whatever reason they still weren't right and space was needed between drawers to install the drawer pulls. We've asked multiple times about a kitchen cabinet that came with a curved side panel, but gotten no response. (See photo and note the left side reveal that is far tighter than the right side.) We asked the installers about it and they said the cabinet came that way and there's nothing they can fix. We received a bathroom sink cabinet with a center cabinet too small for a sink. While this could have been a mis-communication between our designer and Mod's, it seems incredible that anyone on either end of that conversation would think a master bathroom sink could fit in such a small center cabinet. When we finally received the replacement vanity cabinet, within 2 months, one of the drawer fronts has developed a delaminating bubble. (see photo). I want to show off the wonderful cabinetry and tell everyone about the amazing people that worked with me to achieve a clean, modern look for my kitchen and vanities in all the bathrooms as well as the laundry room. These totally American sourced and built (and totally “green”) cabinets are wonderfully strong being made from full 3/4” plywood boxes and solid maple exteriors painted SW Repose Grey. I was told they were a breeze to install and not one thing shorted! We added some drawer inserts for knives, flatware, sorted items, etc. The floating shelving is standard 3” but Mod Cabinetry was happy to accommodate my request to increase the depth to 4” so that electrical boxes for lights, switches and plugs could be installed in them to avoid those being on the backsplash. Oh, and all the cabinet pulls were all cut and installed by wonderful husband, Kenny!!! Keeping the clean, modern lines I wanted.

The vanities all hang above the floor making cleaning the baths a breeze! So neat and tidy. And in the laundry room we installed a sink and I failed to show the lift up cabinets on the opposite wall above a freezer and extra refrigerator. Same as the lift ups in the kitchen.

I can’t say enough wonderful accolades about Mod Cabinetry and the people that worked so hard with me. Simon, the designer, put up with my constant input and questions. Monti was so helpful with the vanities and my order and all my not-so-minor changes and add-ons.

I even flew out to San Francisco to meet and see this wonderful team and their products. Come to find out (LOL) the cabinets are actually made in Simpsonville, SC! A place I have lived in my past life!! And much, much closer to where we live and built this amazing house now!

I am a kitchen and bath designer in the Bay Area and i specialize in modern kitchens and baths. I have discovered Mod Cabinetry almost 4 years ago on occasion when I was in their store looking for some thing else. Luckily I got the opportunity to learn about the line. Since I only do modern cabinetry I was very excited that I was able to find a frameless line of cabinets with extensive modern door options that is made as well as Mod is. I had been scouring the market for such a product and in my opinion it doesn't exist anywhere else. The combination of options and value you get for the price is unbeatable. The construction quality of the cabinets is great,. They are really well made and there is so many styling options, I think anyone's style can be satisfied. In addition they offer several interior options of drawers and interior accessories, so even though this is a modular line a person does not feel limited by the choices offered. Added to the the fact that is the only green guard certified line was just the topping on the cake! It didnt' take me long to place my first order, and since then I have been a loyal customer. The entire team at Mod is dedicated to customer satisfaction, and the project managers is super knowledgeable about the product and will work with you to achieve success.
