5/1 UPDATE: After some initial miscommunication with the team about the trading card system Ace Hardware had in place for high-demand cards, I’m grateful to have had a conversation with Ryan about his priorities. It became clear that fairness and transparency are at the core of how he wants to run things, especially when it comes to giving real collectors a chance.
I really appreciate the staff at the Ace Hardware store in Bethel. Ryan and the rest of the team are always friendly and genuinely willing to help.
As a trading card collector, I especially love the approach they’ve taken to make card buying fairer for everyone. By limiting quantities, they’re helping true collectors finally get a chance to open packs, which has become increasingly difficult elsewhere. As a former Army veteran, I have a deep respect for people who are true to their word — and Ryan’s commitment to doing things the right way really stands out. It’s incredibly refreshing to see. They have a loyal customer for both hardware equipment and trading cards!
A bit disappointed with this store. My issue isn’t with their hardware selection—it’s with how they’ve handled the newly added trading cards.
I spoke with the manager for about 20–30 minutes, discussing upcoming sets I was interested in, including the Prismatic Evolution boxes. During that conversation, he told me he’d notify me when shipments came in and assured me they’d implement a fair system to prevent a single person from buying out all the stock. This approach really impressed me and got me excited to shop locally.
Unfortunately, weeks passed without any updates. When I finally called to check in, I found out the stock had already arrived—and had been sold entirely to one person. It was especially surprising when I was told I was one of the “priority” names on the list.
I understand how chaotic the trading card market can be, but I was disappointed that the store didn’t follow through on what felt like a fair and personal approach. I thought they’d handle it differently than the big-box stores, but in the end, it felt like...

The store is always well-organized, making it easy to find what I’m looking for, and they carry a surprising variety of items — from hardware and tools to seasonal decorations and outdoor supplies. On top of that, the convenience of being able to get keys cut, paint mixed, or propane tanks refilled in one stop makes it a perfect local go-to.

Read moreI'm using a sub account so my name remains private to random people. I went into the store to bring 2 items back and I was given a full lecture along with a lot of attitude about how wrong it was to bring back something I used one time. Ryan that works there was mad and he threw it in my face. I ended up crying in front of everyone in the store as he took my card and gave me the refund which after making me feel so bad I asked to just take the items and leave. As I cried in front of him he didn't care and as I left crying he didn't say a word. He said something like"there you go you got your money." Which at that point I didn't even want. That guy cared more about the money he makes than the people around him. It took a lot to build up enough courage to talk about this. I'm afraid to ever show my face around there again. I won't be...
