Our hot water heater was getting up there in age and I had to repair it myself 2-3 times in recent years. Last weekend we lost hot water, the gas valve had a blink code pointing to vapor sensor fault. I called J&R Herra on a Saturday and the answering service had a tech call me back. The tech was open and honest that they did not have the vapor sensor on hand so it wouldn't be be worth paying for him to come out to the house. He mentioned it is possible to jumper the vapor sensor to bypass it with a resistor. After getting off the phone I went through the box that had the old gas valve that I had replaced a year and a half prior. To my surprise I actually found the jumper. Plugged it in and the water started right up.

Knowing the jumper was not a long term solution, I decided to have J&R Herra quote a replacement water heater the following Monday. Marcus came out to the house, provided quote and stated they could install same day. I told him I would like to get additional quotes just to get an idea that his price was in the ballpark. I was able to quickly get additional quotes and they were competitive to J&R Herra, but the lead times were 1-3 weeks. I decided to go with J&R Herra so I called back and gave them the go ahead. The long road to replace my home’s entire failing boiler and hot water systems was completed by J&R Herra three days ago (October 2024). They were prompt, responsive, efficient, effective, quiet and clean in all their work. The new systems were installed exactly as requested in a highly professional manner and without any surprises. Their leader installer was brilliant. Great job! This installation ended my nearly 3-month search to find the the right company to assist me in determining the right solution to my heating and hot water needs, and then implement it. I investigated six companies in total to select J&R Herra. Each had come out to my home to discuss my needs, view my old systems, and both ask & answer questions. Each subsequently provided bids for this work. The quality of J&R Herra’s bid was one of the top three. In reviewing all six bids I learned a little from each, which I subsequently then asked each bidder to include in updated / revised bids. Three never responded. J&R rapidly complied. One complied, but slowly. One complied, but verbally by phone and didn’t update their actual bid. I honestly can be a pain while selecting contractors, believing “eyes wide open” and “no surprises” my working principle. J&R Herra answered all my questions, even correcting me when required. They were honest. I liked that. I must admit that their total price was a bit higher than most of my bids, but it was worth it. I called J&R Herra to do a clean and check of my furnace. They also checked my humidifier and determined that the humidistat needed to be replaced. Tim G. was the technician. Tim installed the new humidistat, explained the operation of it and showed me where the sensor was installed on the outside of my house. I am very satisfied with the work of Tim G. and J&R Herra.

UPDATE - The drain system for my furnace and humidifier became clogged and started leaking. Tim G. was again the technician on this issue. Tim found clogs in multiple places and replaced all of the clogged drain pipes. Tim once again did an outstanding job and resolved my issue quickly. J&R Herra once again came through for us. I highly recommend them. You won't find a better company to work with!

UPDATE - I called J&R Herra because my humidifier started making a loud noise and I knew there was a problem with it. Jesus G. was the technician that responded. He was on time, very polite and professional. He quickly diagnosed the problem as a bad motor. He explained our options for replacing the motor or getting a new unit. We opted for a new unit, which he had on his truck. He said installation would take about 2 hours. He completed the installation right on time.
