I and my 3 friends will NEVER COME TO THIS RESTAURANT EVER AGAIN! The EXTREMELY ARROGANT SELF RIGHTEOUS LADY OWNER RUINED OUR EXPERIENCE AS SHE SPOKE TO US AS IF WE WERE UNEDUCATED YOUNG CHILDREN THAT DID NOTHING WRONG BUT WE COMPLAINED ABOUT MY NEW YORK STEAK BEING MEDIUM DONE INSTEAD OF MEDIUM RARE AND THEE RESTAURANT BROUGHT IT BACK FROM THE KITCHEN TWICE AFTER I SENT IT BACK FOR BEING OVERCOOKED AS THE LADY OWNER TOLD ME THE LIGHTING IS NOT GOOD IN THE RESTAURANT AND "TO JUST EAT IT, IT IS GOOD" I DISAGREED WITH HER AND SHE INSISTED"YOU JUST EAT IT" ........THE FOUR OF US AT THE TABLE WERE SHOCKED TO SAY THE LEAST. MY FRIENDS ALL AGREED WITH ME AND EVEN MY ONE FRIEND WHO ORDERED HIS STEAK MEDIUM AND IT WAS PINKER THAN MINE AND THE WAITRESS COMMENTED THAT THEY PROBABLY GOT THE THE 2 STEAKS MIXED UP (Please see attached pictures as I had to take the steak home and photo it, obviously not medium rare) AND OUR TABLE AGREED THAT THE OWNER SHOULD NOT BE IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRYI PERIOD! IT WAS HUMILATING TO SAY THE THE LEAST. I WOULD HAVE LEFT IF I WAS WITH MY GIRLFRIEND BUT WE WERE IN SHOCK, ...REALLY......HERE IS WHAT HAPPENNED...... I have to first state that I do not write many reviews but I have never had an experience like this. 4 of us came and dropped over $300 on our meal including a bottle of wine, (which I took home a third of a bottle) along beers with appetizers. The place was faily empty at 7:30 pm ish on a Saturday night. We arrived and had to wait about 10 minutes to get any service. We ordered everthing at once because we were very hungry, 3 steak and lobster dinners $40 each. Lobster and mac $29 and some apetizers which were fine. The quality of the food was OK, not outstanding just average. Diiner was served with bread and butter. Average. The Lobster mac and cheese was good. I don't have steak too often but know what kind and how I like my steak. After we received the meals, I cut into my steak and immediately noticed it was medium and not medium well (plus the meat was an odd shape and not uniform to say the least) So I showed the waitress the steak and she promptly agreed and took it back. She wanted to take my whole plate but I didn't want to wait another 10 minutes and chance it being put under a heat light or have it come back cold so she brought a plate to take it back to the kitchen. A few minutes later a man returned and said the steak was close to medium rare and on the ends it ise towards medium than medium rare. I disagreed, the man said if I did't like it he would make me another. About 2 minutes later the LADY OWNER appeared and said all those humilating things above. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND DON'T TAKE THE CHANCE ON THIS OBVIOUSLY HARD UP RESTAURANT THAT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE IS. MUCH BETTER CHOICES IN THE BLAINE AREA. PLEASE SEE THE UNDOCTORED PHOTOS ATTACHED. I WOULD HAVE GIVEN ZERO STARS IF GOOGLE WOULD...

I really wanted to like this restaurant, and the first impression was good. The atmosphere is really cool, and the wait staff was really nice. I have nothing bad to say about our service, except that they were way understaffed for a Friday night.
We ordered the scallops and the garlic prawns for appetizers. The scallops were phenomenal. The prawns, not so much. They were overdone and under seasoned.
But I was still optimistic about dinner. I ordered the ribeye with mashed potatoes, and my partner ordered the twin lobster tails and mashed potatoes. The first time our food came out, the orders were completely wrong. My partner did get the lobster tails she ordered, but it came with the pan-fried potatoes. I was brought a fillet mignon with pan-fried potatoes. When we told our waitress that wasn't what we ordered, she told us they were out of the mashed potatoes, so they just subbed it. Problem is, my partner is Hindu and doesn't eat pork (she cannot even eat food that's been on the same plate as pork). The pan-fried potatoes contain bacon. So she asked for a baked potato instead. We both sent our first plates back.
When our second plates came back out, I had a ribeye, and my partner had her lobster, but they gave her the pan-fried potatoes and me the baked potato. So we sent the plates back again.
When our third plates came out, we had our proper main and side dishes. We were still excited for the food (and really hungry, too). But when my partner tried to eat her lobster, it was mushy. Like, really gross and mushy. So hers got sent back again.
When her fourth plate came out, her lobster was no longer mushy, but she was still not impressed with the quality.
I ordered my ribeye medium-rare. It came out medium. It was like chewing on a strap of leather. I've had better steak from Applebee's. However, I gave up on sending food back and just ate as much of it as I could manage because I was so hungry.
The best part of the meal was the drinks. They were strong and came out perfect. Other than the scallops, the drinks were the only redeeming part of the meal.
To their credit, the wait staff was very apologetic, and we felt so bad for sending our food back over and over. They comped my steak, and our bill was still over $150. I don't mind paying well for a good meal, but for a $70 steak and $60 lobster, I expect more.
Suffice it to say, we won't...
Read moreI love this little town I live in, however it's rough being gluten-free here as most of the restaurants in town that are open for dinner have slim pickings. As I discovered when opening up the menu during our first visit to Jack's, none of the possible gluten-free dishes were marked and the waiter didn't seem attentive enough to answer any questions on what is gluten free or not, so I just ordered what seemed safe. We were offered bread, but of course it was not gluten-free. That being said, I had a lot more options than the Gateway, so that was nice. We started off with drinks and I was brought an extra dry martini when I ordered an extra dirty. No worries, mistakes happen, but I couldn't help but feel our waiter was ignoring us because we were the youngest patrons in the restaurant (and we are in our 40's 🙈). The surrounding tables were promptly attended to and served while I had to wait a bit for him to come back so I could request the olive juice for my drink. They were nice enough to make a brand new one. Both my husband and I ordered the bacon wrapped filet mignon Oskar, mine medium rare and his medium, and they were perfect. We had this with a side of the Bavarian fried potatoes, which were also delicious. The red house wine I ordered with my meal was surprisingly good. Although the food was great, we were still hungry when we left because the portions were smaller than what we usually cook (I am a distance runner so I eat a lot!). To be fair, we could have ordered an appetizer, salad and a dessert, but our budget for the evening only fit our entrees and a tip. For the record, there are no views of Birch Bay from this restaurant. If you want views of Birch Bay, head to Bay Breeze but that's an entirely...
