I did a fair amount of research when I was looking into where to send my daughter to get her into piano lessons. I was extremely impressed with the professionalism, fun and welcoming vibe projected from MNSOM's website. I was even more elated when that same feel carried over when we first walked through the doors of the business. Since our time there I've got the chance to know the owner and some of the teachers quite well. Eric is an all around great, warm, very friendly and honest guy which carries over into the business across the board. All the teachers from what I've noticed are very welcoming, experienced and passionate! They encourage kids and foster an environment of fun and growth.
The facility is great and inviting to both parents and small kids. The lobby is equipped with tables, chairs and a flat screen TV for family/friends to wait while students learn. If parents have younger kids there are coloring sheets and toys to keep little ones entertained. The classrooms are also designed phenomenally with sound treated walls, vibrant yet tranquil painted colors and spacious enough for parents to sit in on lessons if they choose to.
As a parent without any formal musical training I feel like I'm learning just as much as my daughter from her education. I'm enjoying watching her growth and her excitement from overcoming some of the challenges of learning music.
I would highly recommend MNSOM to any parent considering getting their kid(s) involved in lessons of any skill level! This place has been truly a blessing in more...
Read moreOur 11-year-old daughter has been taking guitar lessons at the MN School of Music for two and a half years (both online and in person). Initially we had considered just paying someone to give her lessons from their home but then we happened upon an actual music "school" located near our home so we decided to give MnSOM a try instead.
The facility is very nice and the school is well run. We have found Eric Nehring and his staff to be friendly and highly professional. We also appreciate how the school regularly organizes recitals and gives out trophies when students show improvement.
Based on their shared musical interests, our daughter chose Mr. Barrett as her instructor, from the teacher profiles provided on the school's website. It was the right choice! Mr. Barrett is both a talented guitarist as well as a caring and enthusiastic teacher who is good with kids. He makes lessons fun and is able to tailor lessons to our daughter's interests while also teaching her important techniques and theory.
We could not be more pleased with our daughter's consistent progress as a musician over these past thirty months and we do regret our decision to enroll her in at the MN...
Read moreMy son was engaged and encouraged from the time he walked in the door. Being able to change lesson times and keep the same instructor with some work is also really nice - and even if you have to change instructors to get the slot you need so that all the other activities can happen they all work from the same curriculum so they can keep right on going. The recital was very nice and although we are not doing the one in October, we will be back for February.
The convenience of having flexible timing and days cannot be overstated. This feels like Foss of piano lessons, and I mean that as a compliment.
I do wish they would give multi-day discounts like some other activities (swimming, gymnastics) where if you signed up for multiple days (probably instruments/voice in this case) you might get 10% off or something. Sibling discounts would be...
