Time Warp Comics in Boulder! Great small shop 🔥 #fyp #shopping #haul #comics #smallbusiness
James PavlickJames Pavlick
It can be overwhelming for a first time comic book reader. There are just so many different genres and heroes and antiheroes and villains and story subplots and editions to choose from. And you can't just buy one comic because it's the fifth in the series of eight and you'll have better luck getting Park Place and Broadway on McDonald's Monopoly game than finding issue number 6. It's my first comic book store in a long time. Huge nerd, big fan of pretty much anything pop culture has thrown at me. I love all Cons big and small. I'm no slouch when it comes to being able to identify canon story arcs versus bologna. Coming here, to this store, it made me feel like an outsider. I get unwanted by both the comics I grew up reading and by the staff working. It's great they're finally using comics as a tool for education. It took them long enough. But I think that decision came too late like Custer at his last stand thinking, "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all." The plight, the queer state I found myself in visiting this store makes me never want to come and visit again. And I won't. This store has taken the things that I loved growing up and eviscerated them beyond recognition. The comic book world is a oversaturated market and will soon see itself suffocated if this store is any indication of how comic life is. Lost what little business I had to give now and in the future. I write this as a cautionary tale to others looking to indulge in nostalgia. Let memories be memories. Don't come to the place where dreams come to die.

Now this is a really cool comic shop in Boulder. It's been around for a while and has a blend of modern meets classic mom and pop shop. It's pretty big for a comic shop, but a little tight in some areas. But that is due to all the stuff they have. If back issues are something you're looking for, they definitely have you covered. Shoot, I found a ton of Star Wars that I can't find at many other shops. Plus they have a HUGE selection of Trade Paper Backs (TPB) and hardcovers. I only know of two other shops that have that many which they are in Denver and Colorado Springs. Now there are only two negative things that I can say. One is that it is hot there. Maybe it is because of the weather and it made it humid, but holy cow I was sweating both times I came to visit. Second is that they don't have all their back issues priced out and have to check them out at the counter. Granted they offered fair prices on everything I bought, it's just a personal preference that I like to know up front that I am going to pay a few dollars or $50 for a comic. Otherwise this is definitely a great place to check out I give it 4.75 out of 5 stars and look forward to coming back one day

The moral of the story with Time Warp Comics is simple: when you're the only shop in the area, local customers have no choice but to support you. The bare fact of this monopoly makes me nervous, because honestly, I've seen a lot better shops in my day. It's not so much the selection that I have an issue with. They have a staggering amount of trade paperbacks. If you're looking for any single issues though, you're out of luck unless they were just released, and even then, they're just crammed on racks. This in itself is a major gripe of mine. Books were leaning forward, becoming more bent as time passed. Time Warp needs to invest in boards and bags for all of their books. The two other issues I want to touch on were staffing, and the store layout. Customer service is extremely important, and honestly, setting up a table in the back with a surly man sorting through books just isn't a selling point. He seemed miffed when I tried to peer around him to see the products behind him, like it was an imposition that I was there. The bearded, bespectacled gentleman behind the counter was pretty genial though, as was the comics cutie running the register. The store is grouped, generally, by theme, and it definitely detracts from the flow of traffic, and makes things hard to find. If all Pop Vinyl was in one place, and then sub-divided by fandom, it would save a frustrating scavenger hunt through the store. In conclusion, I have to stress that the good people of Boulder expand their hunt for comics to the Greater Denver Area. There's so much selection, and a shop to meet every need (although I, of course, endorse Colorado Coins, Cards, and Comics, paired with Appleseed Collectibles, as the gold standard of geek retail). Time Warp Comics is, at the end of the day, mediocre. I hope that in the future they will implement enough changes to stay competitive in the growing geek...

Best small local shop in Colorado! So glad it is near me, but if it wasnt I'd still take the trip because it's worth it. They almost always have what I'm looking for or can suggest something good/similar if they don't. The organization is great, the amount of weekly single issues and back issues for a store this size is amazing. The amount of indie books and issues available is fantastic. The employee suggestion wall is great and the overall vibe is on point.

Some small quibbles... I've had some weird interactions with one employee who is short/rude to me or in a bad mood every time I go in. BUT there are always 2+ people working so I just don't engage with him anymore and go to someone else, so its really not a problem. Literally every other employee is so kind and wonderful, they make my experience great every time. They're the nicest comic shop employees I've ever interacted with. No judgement, totally kind, knowledgeable and warm.

My only real complaint is about ordering/pre-ordering books. My experience with this process has been less than desirable as I've never recieved a call when it arrives and they take much longer than I'd like, best case over a month. My most recent order will unfortunately be my last, whenever it shows up, as it was supposed to be a gift and took much longer than I was told. So I will be ordering books to my home from now on. Though I want to say I will continue to support this shop for all of my other comic needs, they are great and maybe ive just had bad luck with my orders.

Truly, I think this store is so great in every other aspect and that they still deserve 5 stars, or at least dont deserve a review hit from me giving them 4 stars. I will continue to choose Time Warp over any other shop.

Please dont be discouraged by my small issues, visit this shop, they are great and deserve your support! I...

If you’re into comics, collectibles, or just stepping into a place that feels like a shrine to storytelling, Time Warp Comics is where you need to be. From the second we walked in, the place hit different—it was immaculate, smelled amazing, and was so insanely organized that it made hunting for gems effortless (and dangerously tempting for the wallet).

The prices? Outrageously fair. No gouging, no nonsense—just solid deals on a selection that makes it almost impossible not to leave with a stack of books.

As soon as we had any confusion or questions, Cole, who was holding down the front desk, was on it. Super knowledgeable, super patient, and genuinely passionate about helping people find the right books. Then we met Kelly, the owner, and that’s when the experience went from great to legendary. This guy didn’t just sell us comics—he gave us his story, his passion, his personal recommendations. You could tell he’s in this because he loves it, and that energy made the whole visit feel like hanging out with friends rather than just shopping.

When it came time to check out, we ran into the best kind of problem—you know, the “I found way too much good stuff” kind of problem. Cole helped break it down, giving us honest, well-thought-out recommendations on what to grab now versus what could wait. Zero pressure, just good advice from someone who knows their comics inside and out.

Bottom line? Time Warp Comics is an absolute must-visit. Whether you’re a hardcore collector or just getting into comics, this is the spot. Kelly and his team care about what they do, and it shows in every corner of this shop. Five stars,...
