I've been here several times and usually order the Brooklyn pastrami sandwich. In the past it's been great -- easily one of my go-to orders. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was such a disappointment that I feel compelled to share. The sandwich I received this time was almost entirely gristly fat, with barely any of the flavorful pastrami I've come to expect. It was inedible. When I politely brought it to the owner's attention, I was told that "the quality of the meat is based on what they're able to receive." I understand supply issues can happen, but if the product is that poor, it simply shouldn't be served. Consistency and quality control are key, especially for something that's normally such a standout item. I left really disappointed, and it's made me hesitant to return despite my previous good experiences here.

stop in for classic European sandwiches right here in Boulder. this reminds me of traveling in Alsace, with little hints of Germany, France and Switzerland. by far, the best thing happening here was the laugenbrot. the sandwiches we had were both served on it. This took me back to bites at the train station and was a welcome memory. That said the flavors were a bit bland for an American pallette, prices were quite high relative to what you would pay in Europe, and the service was more akin to European in tone. The shop had plenty of amazing things to bring home and make your European moments authentic. one should expect to pay a bit more for this in the middle of the US, and of course, the Boulder tax. I look forward to returning and updating my reviews over time.

Stopped in here and grabbed a “Le Frigo Royal” sandwich to go. While I was waiting for the sandwich, I checked out the dizzying array of imported fine foods, meats, and cheeses. Had I not been in a hurry, I could have spent an hour or more just examining all of the various foods, and I would surely have spent a fair bit of money since so many items looked so good or reminded me of living in Europe. My sandwich was ready in about 5 mins, however, and I had to go. Topped with prosciutto, sausage, cornichons, and with a heavy layer of butter on the bread, it was soooo good and as authentic to my favorite Parisian sandwiches as I’ve had outside of France. I’ll be back very soon to do some shopping and grab another sandwich!

I love the food here but the service is extremely hit or miss. I always pay extra to add extra meat to my Club Frigo and on Sunday my sandwich was made with 1 piece of Turkey and 1 piece of ham. I paid $3 to have 1 slice of ham added to my sandwich. As much as I love their food I can’t justify their pricing and lack of uniformity when it comes to their sandwich formulas. Some days I order the Club Frigo and it has 2-3 pieces of Turkey on it but MOST days I order it there is only 1 slice of Turkey; this is why I always pay to add ham but to pay $3 for one slice of ham is absurd. I never know if I’m walking out with a real sandwich or a French baguette with a hint of meat. Also the cookies on Sunday tasted really old, they tasted stale but they were soft? Almost like someone reheated old cookies in an oven, that was the most disappointing part because their chocolate chip cookies are normally so incredible :(

Additionally, the employees working on Sunday appeared to be young children. I had to wait for approximately 5-10 minutes to even have my order taken as the 12ish year old boy seemed to be in his own little world. The younger boy was just sort of watching the older boy make sandwiches as I stood there patiently waiting to be acknowledged. I was not even greeted by staff upon entry into the store. I frequent El Frigo for lunch often as it’s near my job but this last experience left me with a sour taste in my mouth and I won’t be frequenting El Frigo as often for lunch...

If you come when they're busy there's no logic to what they're doing. I've seen ten people order after me and get their food before me. They quote me 20 minutes when I got into the store and it took almost an hour to get my food. It's a big waste of time and disrespectful to people that need an accurate time estimate. Food may be good, but the service makes it not worth it. I've seen people wait 5-10 minutes to even order. I understand being short staffed, but at least make it known that wait times are not accurate and it will take some time even place an order. Why order online if the food takes an hour even after you get to the store?

EDIT: In response to what the owner commented after me, the order was confirmed 10 minutes prior to me arriving at the store, so total wait time after confirmation was 70 minutes. Also, you didn’t enforce any mask wearing in your store with me any customers since the mask mandate began again in Boulder - so please don’t try to make yourselves seem like your protecting the community when you don’t actually...
