I'm writing this review to help someone in the future should they fall into the same situation I did. It's very very hard to find a high quality skilled nursing facility--the whole industry as a whole lacks good infrastructure--so I don't want to deter anyone from Bowling Green if Bowling Green is the right fit for them. However, if your loved one is a POST STROKE BEDRIDDEN DISABLED individual PRONE TO INFECTION in need of MEDICAL ATTENTION and REHABILITATION please do not go to this facility.
Medical Capacity: They do not have a nurse practitioner, physician, or physical therapist available during the weekends or holidays. These are very necessary for two reasons 1. they won't be able to receive proper medical attention if they are vulnerable/the round the clock care and 7-day physical therapy on their website is a lie 2. should your loved one get an infection on a holiday or weekend they will not be able to be transferred to your preferred hospital. My mom got an infection during the weekend (from laying in her urine and fecal matter for hours) and it was a hassle to get her out of the facility and into a hospital that could help her. The staff did try to set up an IV for her--I'll give them that. But their error was in stubbornly thinking they could properly care for her without having a nurse practitioner or physician on hand. My mom went into septic shock on her ride in the ambulance. If i hadn't fought so hard to get her transferred in time, she wouldn't have made it.
Food: The food comes highly recommended by patients (based on reading reviews). My mom is a diabetic and she was being fed pizza, french fries, burgers, chocolate eclairs, etc. Every single meal was carbs and sugar--which is why I think the patients love it but it's not the most ideal or balanced if your loved one is a diabetic, and once again prone to infection. All of the staff knew of her condition but made no efforts to switch their methods. Note--if you're loved one needs feeding assistance--their feeding assistance looks like an aid popping in every 10min, asking if the patient is "okay" and then rushing to go see their other patients. My mom doesn't have control over her movements so she struggled to feed herself, would drop her plate of food often, and would go to bed hungry. It took multiple phone calls to even get their "feeding assistance." They like to justify their lack of care by saying that it's a part of a patients rehabilitation, but it's really just a lack of staff.
Comments on the staff: Bowling Green's main staff--the bedside aids work 12hours a day and can get 6patients+ to look after. Consequently, they are very tired, frustrated, and overworked. This translates to rudeness over the phone and a lack of willingness to help. I know this because when the aids were being rude to me over the phone they would admit this. From my mom's perspective--she hated it. On her first night, she was told that she would not be cleaned after a bowel movement/peeing until 2hours had gone by. When she was being cleaned, she said that the staff would complain, make loud noises and even admit loudly "I can't do this." I understand that cleaning up fecal matter and urine isn't the definition of a good time, but the lack of professionalism is transparent. My mom was recovering from a bilateral stroke and just coming to terms with not having any physical independence. She now has fear of the door being closed, because for multiple nights she would ask for help/press the call button/ and even reverted to yelling and the staff were slow to respond. She would not recommend this facility to anyone. But, i understand how understaffed and overworked facilities can be which is why i'm giving it 2stars and not 1.
Recommendation: I'd only recommend this facility to anyone who has a loved one that has some form of independence and is not a high risk...
Read moreSo this is one of the facilities my father-in-law has used over the past few years for either a rehab PT/OT or just a post surgical / procedure recovery, Ngl Out of the facilities that I have visited and/or had experience interacting with this by far was the cleanest most pleasant and had a genuine vibe of compassion and standard of service. From the clean parking lot to the present and welcoming receptionist A properly working kiosk allowed me to check in and check out. I went to visit my family member and was given easy to understand instructions on how to get there the other residence that I passed on the way we’re in various states of inside their room, returning from an activity or in the hallway, just relaxing, but no one seemed in distress and or Any type of state of uncleanliness. I state these things almost as a rebuttal of some of the conditions I have witnessed but also as an affirmation of just the basic standard of medical care that we should be giving each other especially if we’re being paid to provide or paying for that care.
Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised To see my family, member alert, talkative, obviously better off than when they were brought to the Facility I don’t normally leave reviews about this type of business, but everyone else is doing it so I figured I’d join along. Can’t hurt.. My family member new nurses by name one in particular name, Toni Was pleasant attentive And one of my family members favorites another night nurse named Dominic was also someone that we’ve interacted with positively. And don’t don’t feel like we haven’t had positive interactions with the other nurses. It’s just these were the names that I was given and also that I witnessed my family member use while I was there.
The services provided have been more than adequate the food nutritious and sometimes tasty. You can’t win all of them, but it has been enough to wear. I haven’t had to bring supplemental snacks so my family member doesn’t mean you know with her away cleanliness in a attentiveness or two of my big ones when it comes to some type of facility like this because we’re not there so we can’t be sure someone that might suffer from incontinence or reduced motor function would get the assistance they needed in a timely fashion so there you go five stars guys good job keep up...
Read moreCleanness is amazing physical therapy department did wonderful things for my Aunt but the Staff and Administration is so crooked, but there are some wonderful Aids who were very attentive and did so much for her. MOST of them just come in for their paycheck seem like they can’t keep the good ones for what I saw during my visits. Some of the Nurses were wonderful but a few were rude, would not speak or just acted “ghetto” to me. I was there one morning and saw one who was the Unit Manager who did NOT act as a unit manager very unprofessional. I did mention it to an employee there and their words were “we see it all and there are no consequences to her actions”. Our worst encounters were the night shift, I don’t know what one to be exact there is one night shift nurse that is amazing my mother and I met the supervisor she was a younger lady, darker hair kinda short we never had to worry about my aunt those nights we knew she was in great hands with that staff it the the other shift was VERY questionable! I would really honestly think long and hard before putting a love one there, it seemed like a buddy system to us, you could see the employees just hanging out at the nurses station while lights were on, talking laughing and we were up there all times of the day and night. We are go glad she is home with us and completely away from that god awful place. I would give this place no star if I could that’s now negative I feel about it.
🌟Also, maybe they should NOT have their own employee giving 5 star rating to boost their numbers up, especially after reading that review about the OD of meds of that that family is in my thoughts and prayers. I can’t imagine, that’s why we kept on top of everything there someone was always there you have to watch that place they spend more time rushing, on phones, sitting down shooting...
