If you have a love of plants and flowers and colorful pottery and are in Delray Beach you are going to want to visit this tropical paradise. Over 30 years ago, John Sclazo and Dan Mehler, two friends from New Jersey, moved to South Florida with their families and purchased a run down produce market on Federal Hwy which they transformed into what is now plant heaven Johnny Mangos.
From your first steps into the parking lot right into the store, Johnny Mangos evokes the type of places you find in the Keys. There is every kind of plant imaginable including my favorite fruit trees, butterfly plants, orchids, and bromeliads along with colorful pottery and home decor. They also offer flower and orchid arrangements.
There was a new surprise and something to make me smile around every corner like their koi pond and waterfall. I am in love with all of the gorgeous Mexican pottery including one very cute chihuahua and I really want one of their bobbing flamingo garden stakes. Not only can you get great ideas for plants but you can see the imaginative ways to display them. For example, I never thought of using an old fountain as a showcase for succulents. There is so much beauty and inspiration to be found here. I highly recommend...
Read moreReview Update: I was contacted by Oliver from Johnny Mangos and he apologized for the poor service and our bad experience. Although I told him that I wasn’t looking for a refund, he reversed the charge to my credit card and said he wanted to keep us as customers. Considering their recovery efforts, I’ll give them a mulligan and give them another shot.
Original Review: Buyer beware! I’ve been purchasing all my wife’s flower arrangements (average $150-250) from Johnny Mangos for years but this recent experience was terrible! The planted arrangement arrived today without a base to catch water so I called to see if it was left in truck or they forget to include with ceramic pot. The prior order included the base but girl answering the phone informed me that “sometime we order them with the base but this batch doesn’t have any so what you have is it...” This was almost a $200 arrangement so I was disappointed to say the least. Looks like they are cutting quality and service but that’s my last order from them. They just lost a good customer with...
Read moreI used to be a big fan of Johnny Mango’s. Even though they don’t have the best prices, we liked the vibe. I bought a Lucky Bamboo in a disco ball vase as a gift for $45. If you know this plant, it’s hard to kill and goes for $8 at Lowe’s, so the real value of the item is in the vase. Well, I found out my friend isn’t into disco balls anymore so I went to exchange it the very next day. Nope, all sales are final on plants. The blonde chick who sold me the plant the day before was very firm and unapologetic. Are they in their right to uphold their policy? Sure. Is it good customer service to not make an exception on a decorative vase because there is a cheap plant in it? Not in my opinion. This is a rough economy and it’s really crappy to be stuck with a gift that my friend won’t like because an employee didn’t want to look into an exception.
There are plenty of nearby nurseries with better prices to spend my money at. They may not be as cute, but they have better...
