Terrible customer service and ridiculous policies. A few months back, I went here with my in-laws and shopped with zero issues. When we checked out we had two separate orders and they scanned my in-laws membership card as well for my order. I have done this a few other times at different Costcos and when I did have a membership I have done this for friends and family with ZERO ISSUES.
Well this past Thursday was the first time at this location they had an issue with us doing this. At the check out when my father in law asked them to scan his membership card for my order the cashier said my father in law would have to be paying or I would have to pay cash. He scanned the card and wouldn't let me use my debit card. He said the system won't allow the card unless it's the same name on the card as the membership card. Even his wife couldn't pull out her card and pay even though they have a joint members. Over $200 order they were going to let walk over a stupid policy. We asked when this policy started cause we've NEVER had this issue. Again many different Costco locations allowed us to do this several times. The very rude cashier insisted this had always been the policy and it has always been like this with the name on the card issue. The very kind gentleman who was loading our cart was honest with us and said no they just started cracking down about a month ago. The cashier sounded like he was reciting training information and had no compassion or personable skills. He could have been honest and said they just started cracking down instead of lying and said it's always been that way. It would have been a more pleasant experience if he had just been more personable and honest or at the least say he didn't know when they started. I was considering getting my own membership again but after learning about this new policy and how they treat customers i will not. Is the membership fees really how they are making a profit that they would let a large order walk out? Is their training process a script they give their employees to say instead of being honest and compassionate? Is the policy really going to deny a joint member from paying if the name on their card doesn't match the membership card of their spouse who is the joint member?!? If that's the case like the rude cashier said then I most definitely won't ever get a membership or shop their again. Also so sad that they don't have a scam and go app like Sam's does. They make enough money to do it. But then again they would not be able to crack down on these ridiculous policies if they had a...
Read moreThis review is solely because of your Supervisor Robin. I entered Costco on 1/4/2024 to return a recalled item. My first contact was with Christina. She was very nice in noticing the recall and attempted to assist; however, she was having issues and had to consult with the supervisor. Christina then came back to me and advised that I would not be able to return the item because I was no longer a member. It was a recalled item and Costco sent me the email to return it, so didnât understand. She called Robin. I explained the situation to Robin and she said, âyou have to be a memberâŚwe are membership based company and you have to be a member to do a return. You can renew your membership and then return the item.â I said, you want me to pay $100 to renew the membership to return a $69 recalled item?â She then advised me that there was a step down membership for $60. As I was talking to her to try to understand what she was saying she abruptly said, â I can get a manager for you!â Rudely dismissing me. At this point I became annoyed. I requested the manager since she decided that was the best she could do with the position she was given. Trevor came and was very nice in explaining what could be done: ârenew the membership- return the item- get a refund for the membership. All things that Robin could have explained to prevent upsetting a previous member. Now when she had to help me through that process I asked her nicely if she needed my drivers license and she ignored meâŚtwice. I said, âRobin do you need my drivers licenseâ. Thatâs when she responded, âyes!â rudely. It was clear she didnât want to assist me, so I asked for someone that would(April who was nice also). She walked away. Costco, Robin shouldnât be your first line of contact with customers if you want to retain or welcome previous members back. This whole situation could have been avoided with clear policy instructions as Trevor explained. If you review your cameras you see that we stood in line for an about 10 mins or so, while freezing, but happy and patiently waiting our turn just to be faced with rudeness, which caused my mood to change. Every single action in the universe produces a reaction no matter what. Why she decided to be rude is something she has to deal with. Now CostcoâŚyou have to deal with a very unsatisfied customer/previous member that most likely will never become a member again because of Robin. Give her the proper training she needs to handle customers or maybe Costco is not the business she...
Read moreAmong membership warehouse stores, COSTCO rates highest. As others have raised prices w inflation, they have continued to keep their markup levels consistently lower, opting to serve the needs of their customers first. For example, this location's card readers do not yet have TAP technology. While this may be less convenient for some, it requires an expensive upgrade whose costs would be passed on to customers, as many other businesses have done.
There is a planned upgrade to the gas station pumps in the near future that is required to fix some problems, which will result in upgraded biometric scanners being made available.
Most food products are consistently available, with few ever being discontinued; supplements are treated similarly. New products are added, and requests by customers can be submitted via Suggestion Box.
Clothing products are much more rapidly rotated by season, style, and brands; as as other physical goods.
Electronics are rotated as newer models are made available.
There is a small jewelry section with high-quality gold, silver, and men's watch selections from around the world.
There are occasionally live or silk plants available.
They have "special buys" that are available for a short, limited-time; sometimes only 2- 4 days. These are often package deals on items that you can get elsewhere but for much more $.
Multiple regularly carried items are put on sale each month.
Locating specific clothing items in stock by color and size is difficult, not just in store, but especially if attempting to locate remotely at another location: store databases do not record numbers of specific sizes or colors, only total quantity of a stock number, of which only one is given per item type. This means finding that swimsuit or pants in your size may require a trip to each location to search.
They have multiple locations in the Tampa area, but this location is the only one with a Pharmacy.
You can view their website for locations, membership, and product pricing. Members can also shop online. Gold Membership earns cash back.
