I was really excited for this market to open up, but there's been issues with their products that I feel should be addressed. Their produce is a little sketchy. I have gone in and looked at the produce multiple times and found mold on a lot of the vegetables or fruits that are sitting out. I recently bought some mushrooms from there because they had been marked down and I thought it was a bargain. No, the mushrooms had gone bad and one of the pricing stickers covered the expiration date. I also got some refrigerated items that had the expiration date covered up by pricing stickers. These items had mold on them and I only discovered this after opening them. It was disappointing, as these items are hard to find and my pregnant wife was just wanting a taste of home and something to help her cravings, and then she couldn't eat it. A lot of the dry stock is sold past the expiration date as well. My wife and I bought expensive drinks and found that they were over a year old. Many of the items are not price marked at all, which makes it hard to try to get the things you need and also keep in mind your money. I've run into the problem of the item I'm trying to buy not having a sticker, but when I get to the counter to buy it, it is the biggest hassle trying to price it, and I have been asked if I "still want" and item, because the staff doesn't want to have to figure out how much it costs. I get that it's annoying, but it's even more annoying not knowing the price of anything in the store because a good 3/4 of the store isn't marked.
It is really disappointing, because even shopping for things that are usually pretty inexpensive has been a hassle here. The prices keep going up and the quality is going down. If you do get food from here, PLEASE try to find the expiration date, and always double check to make sure the food is stored correctly, and if it is not marked with a price, save yourself the hassle of bringing it to the counter. Staff don't know how much...
Read moreThis was my favorite Asian grocery in Kitsap county and the only one I shopped at. But last week while picking up some fried chili crisp, the bottle was stacked so tightly in-between a row of two other products, I accidentally knocked a jar over. And in a move to save the jar I quickly moved my basket under the falling jar to catch it to stop it from breaking in the floor.
Unfortunately, the quick motion of my basket caused a bottle of banana ketchup to be knocked off a lower shelf and break in the floor.
Upon, checkout I was made to pay for the bottle that broke. Okay, I get it you're a small business and every penny counts, and I average over $100 of my grocery budget there every month.
But from a customer service standpoint to make me pay for accidentally knocking a bottle to the floor? Sure you saved $2.69. But once again from a customer service pov, did you save $2.69 OR did you LOSE over $1200 a year in patronage, because I'm never coming back. There's other Asian groceries in the area that I can get all the same things I get...
Read moreBeen a long time since I last shopped here. Was hoping to find a Thai ingredient that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. Kaffir Lime Leaves? Check. Then because I had an idea to add an ingredient to a dish...Chinese Long Beans? Check. Umami-rich Shrimp Paste? Of course. Nice friendly young lady behind the counter? You bet.
I was going to give the store four stars but had to take one away. What I thought were fresh Kaffir lime leaves turned out to be Chinese broccoli which I only realized after taking them out of the bag. The problem was that the bags were right behind an incorrect sign on the refrigeration case. I hadn't bought Kaffir lime leaves in years, the last time they were packaged dried in the bag. I just figured this time that perhaps the leaves were being sold fresh now. At least the Chinese Long Beans actually were...
