After about 7 months, more so 4 given lockdown months, I had to cancel my membership at King Gym as well as my husband. We had been attracted to this gym when we were looking for a place that had equipment that would cater to a more serious audience of lifters.
We were recommended this gym immediately and the small space provided us initially a place to go and get our lift in. I do wanna note, this gym does have some very well made equipment which kept us wanting to come back more and more.
Unfortunately because my husband and I wanted to abide by CDC guidelines and prevent any spread of Covid-19 we chose to lift in masks out of respect of others.
The owner told us that this was a practice we would not enforce. However it became clear after months of being approached by members about the matter and openly mocked by the owner himself within earshot that this would not stop.
One other thing to consider is some of the members at the gym. Many of them seem to exhibit high levels of ego which is common and understandable for bodybuilder. The difference here was that many of these lifters would do things such as leave personal belongings on multiple machines, stand in walkways which caused traffic, and making loud and obscene gestures while lifting.
The last thing I would like to bring up is the heavy presence of politics in this gym. My husband and I have lifted at many gyms for over a decade and know that conservative values are common in these environments. This gym was the first time where the owner would almost participate in daily discussions of political discord which made us grew more and more uncomfortable.
As a bit of an overview, especially for anyone that may have felt overwhelmed with the size of this review. King Gym is a great place to lift and you will love it as long as their are not a large amount of people present there. This gym also has a very open and strong conservative presence so bear this in mind as well for if you are not part of the crowd, you will feel like an outsider and...
Read moreI joined King Gym about a month ago because I was tired of being tired and feeling like crap. Over the last year or so I had a lot of life changes, good and bad, but all took a toll on my health, physically and mentally. I've worked out most of my adult life but those life changes deeply affected every aspect of myself. I decided I needed to force myself to get back to the gym because the gym was always my happy place, and that I needed a gym that wasn't your typical box store gym where no one cared about you or helped you. I researched and found King Gym. I went in, met with Bret, and immediately signed up. I started some workouts on my own but then decided I needed more guidance and education from a trainer. Bret had mentioned while I was touring and signing up that they have quite a few trainers there. About a week or so into going I pulled the pin and told Bret I wanted to work with a trainer. He suggested Matt. I can't tell you how happy I am that I decided to go to King Gym AND start training with Matt. The gym and the trainer are the perfect fit for me. The gym is my happy place again and I know with their help, I'll get myself back. Best decision I made for myself in a LONG TIME. I'm still getting to know the people there but everyone seems friendly and supportive. YOU CAN NOT GO WRONG WITH THIS GYM!!! You owe it...
Read moreI really love King Gym and highly recommend it! I started working out there in Nov 2023 after 4 years of inactivity due to chronic lower back problems. At the time, my back issues were serious enough that I had multiple MRIs, loads of physical therapy, and visits with 3 separate spinal surgeons.
So I was naturally nervous, but the owner Bret helped me figure out what I could do... And with time I went from being really weak to a much stronger body that now has very minimal issues. My physical therapist has been amazed by my progress and strength such that I was released from their care because I'm doing so well.
The environment is so friendly! The people are kind and it's never so busy you can't use equipment or machines. It's convenient and you can work out anytime - it's open 24 hours a day.
I'm so grateful to Bret for his encouragement and the people I've met there (all having different fitness goals). It's been literally life-changing for my health...
