Wonderful beyond words tour experience. We had the unique pleasure of meeting & listening to the owner, Herman, speak. What a treasure trove of knowledge, of history generally, but particularly the history of Pennsylvania rye. A surprise to me, Pennsylvania is the first place rye was created!!! With rye being a favorite of mine, this was so interesting to learn.
Though I am no expert, I believe theirs to be the best I've ever tasted. They have a variety of rye's & are the only ones to do a Syrah barreled which is delicious. Also wonderfully made, I thought, was the honey barreled & the apple brandy.
We've been buying Knob Creek but supporting a local historical treasure with a rich "Dad's Hat" family history with both Pennsylvania & Croatian roots is extremely important to us. More important though is whether it TASTES better which thankfully it does, taste is everything. We will continue sticking with &...
Read moreLet me start off by saying, I've been enjoying Dad's Hat Rye whiskey for many years. I find it to be the very best of PA's offering in whiskey. Bold, super flavorful, with a great mouthfeel (not thin). Now since having a personal tour, presented by the traveled and well versed Herman, my appeal towards Dad's Hat has blown through the roof. What a great insightful tour, the care and devotion placed into distilling their whiskey was seen, shown and expressed. Herman is extremely knowledgeable of his craft, and an advocate for proud Pennsylvania roots in whiskey distillation. It was more an honor to take a tour with him, then merely a walk around taste and sample session. Our group of 6 left the tour, very impressed, educated, happy and excited to bring home a few bottles of distillery gems. 10/10...
Read moreMy wife and I had an amazing tour including a wonderful tasting here on October 21, Saturday. We were so lucky to get a tour by Herman, the founder and distiller of this first rye whiskey distillery. Herman is also an engineer and he introduced us a very informative distilling history, the process and the different whiskeys of Dad’s Hat. He and Bartender were super nice and easy to talk to. They offered us their entire line of spirits for tasting. Herman not only kindly offered us a tasting of a precious rye whiskey looks like a Chinese whiskey (Bai Jiu), and he also generously sent my wife a gift of her favorite Old fashioned. We really enjoyed the great experience. Highly recommend and go check the place out. Happy...
