Warren Broken Arrow Theater
My wife and I just visited this theater for the first time after living in Tulsa for nearly two years. We go to the movies twice a week, when we can, and are both a bit obsessed with movies/theaters.
Usually we go to the (A-List) AMC 20, Tulsa Hills or the Circle. Venturing out to Broken Arrow to see a movie wasn’t something that was ever really on our radar.
All I can say is WOW. This theater is fantastic. It’s got the vibes of an old multiplex, but it feels brand new. The scale of it when you walk in is incredible. The sconces, the carpet, the lighting, the marble on the wall. It’s insanely Art Deco and wonderful. It even has the nostalgic smell of something epic like an old dark ride at a theme park.
I was a 35mm projectionist for many years, so I was surprised to find out that this theater opened in 2014, which is a few years after film projection pretty much died completely. So it makes sense that this theater likely never had any 35mm film projectionists.
I still want to ask an employee if they have any film projectors up in the booth, just out of curiosity. Maybe even 70mm capable, with that Infinity Screen? If anyone here on Reddit has worked here and knows, please lemme know!
Even with the assumption that this theater was never prepped for film, it brought me back to a time when going to see a movie was also about the spectacle. The theater and the presentation. It makes for a special experience, I mean heck they even have a diner!?
It really seems like Bill Warren went all out with this theater. We don’t see stuff like this anymore and I hope that Regal has treated it well. From the looks of it, they have. Hopefully it stays open for many years. I’m definitely more of a small cinema dude, but with theaters of this magnitude the sheer spectacle is worth it alone.
There’s not much info about the theater on Cinema Tour or Cinema Treasures. Just general stuff. I would say it’s probably because it’s relatively young and many people don’t know about it. If you’re into movies and theaters, I recommend giving this...
Read moreSince the purchase by Regal, there's nothing special about The Warren anymore. It is just like any other theater. This is very, very disappointing.
Since the purchase a few years ago, we've noticed several things: The drink choices have changed, and not for the better, Items from the Diner menu have changed (to include the blaring lack of The Warren Burger which is one of those special things that brought my wife and I from Owasso down here to see movies), Several things within and without the theater aren't as nice as before, for instance the painting on the outside building is old and dingy, the outside hand rails are disgusting (this isn't New York ya know), the carpet in areas inside is worn, some wall covering are worn, etc. The seats in the non-reclining theater are showing their wear, Remember the nice announcer welcoming and light performance before the ads and feature, that's not there either. We are sitting in the Grand Infinity at this moment with 15 minutes until the movie... Silence. (Yes, this is petty, but it was cool and excited everyone, especially the kids.), More recently, we've noticed that the seats are not just not taken care of, but have spills on a lot of them. My 10 yo noticed it and placed her coat over the seat to watch their movie.
You can tell it isn't taken care of with pride like it was before with its previous owners.
Overall, there isn't much that makes The Warren of Broken Arrow special, different, and unique from any other theater. Aside from the colors and decorations inside... There isn't much else that warrants a visit from other theaters in the area.
Look, I can handle the change in drinks, even the change in menu options (just bring back the Warren Burger), but everything else should be fixed. I want this place to be a place my kids would love to go to with their families and right now, this isn't it.
Revisited to watch Spiderman No Way Home and revised to include additional...
Read moreMany of the changes that took place after Regal took over the Warren have made the balcony/DS product worse like getting rid of real utensils and napkins for plastic disposables, swapping out glassware for plastic cups, tiny cheap ketchup packets. For the price and expectation set, this should feel like a premium night out, but with some of these noticeable corner cuts, the overall product feels cheap now (and therefore overpriced). The new menu I’m not a fan of, not enough variety and again feels cheap compared to what it used to be. The drinks have been changed as well for the worse, I used to love the big 32oz frosty beers in the glass jugs. But tonight I got a much smaller beer in a plastic cup, that was room temperature. I tried giving the bar the benefit of the doubt and tried a different beer and that one was also warm and stale. It seems like the Regal has done away with food/beverage runners as the drinks took 20 minutes to get each time. This is very depressing to me because I loved the Warren theater growing up (and even working for the Moore, OK for a time). The facilities are still beautiful and well kept, it has that air of premium nostalgia and upscaleness. But the product itself has turned sour with the changes regal made in order to cut costs. No part of what I’m actually getting feels premium or upscale. If I look at the plastic utensils, the plastic glassware, the warm stale beer, the sub par menu offering and the slow delivery of food/beverages, I really feel like for the price of the product has become a ripoff. Again it makes me sad to see what it has become, and I can only hope that maybe it’ll go back to what it used to be. Unfortunately until then, we will probably go to other theaters in the future, or at least avoid the...
