I was completely ripped off by this store! I walked in and politely asked if they had wigs- the man behind the counter rudely pointed to the ceiling and said “they’re everywhere”. I Should have just walked out then. The only good part of my experience was a younger woman working there who helped me find a wig. I explained that I didn’t know how to wear one and was a beginner, she helped me a lot in explaining how to clean up this wig to be in good shape. I got home and was unable to make this wig look like anything but a rats nest. I did the tips she asked and it just looked worse. It’s completely unwearable, this wig shouldn’t have even been sold and I feel like an idiot for buying it, the second I saw it pulled out if the bag I should have said no way.
But to make it worse, the very rude man working there was incredibly unpleasant to deal with while checking out. he clearly doesn’t understand how credit cards work- he told me every time you use your credit card, you get charged a fee by your credit card company. I said no.. the BUSINESS gets charged for using a credit card not the buyer. Then I didn’t trust him with my credit card, so I did venmo instead. After I paid I showed him that it went through on my phone 3x and he DIDNT BELIEVE ME! said he wouldn’t let me leave until he got an email confirming it…. this was so ridiculous and unnecessary- after all of this the wig was an absolute disaster. BIGGEST...
Read moreI’ve been going to this store for years! The owner Kathleen and her staff are so friendly and inviting. I understand that there may be times where everyone is busy dealing with a customer and may not be able to greet or assist immediately, if you you stick around, you usually can have your custom costume for your event be pieced by piece in their wonderful and electic shop.
They don’t sell prepackaged costumes. They sell collectible vintage and costumes ranging from used studio wardrobe to home made costumes made with love and the special touch.
Halloween is super busy in there, so sometimes I see seasonal staff such as the man at the checkout stand to help fill in the gaps since there are few costume specialists on hand.
It’s a family owned buisness. I’ve always felt welcomed to share my costuming ideas as well as share my personal life with them. As an Asian person of color and as well as a gay guy, I feel pretty comfortable in the shop. Kathleen is so warm and genuinely welcoming, I think I’ve spent half a day in their several times just catching up with her. She’s so lovely if you get a chance to have her assist you.
I’ve never left the store empty handed. And I always leave with a smile.
I had to count my change twice today because I realized her prices were so good that I saved a lot of money by making Junk For Joy...
Read moreI have been going to this store for 16 years, and feel that it is a reliable place to find funky costuming and retro odds and ends. I do agree that on some items it is outrageously overpriced, BUT you're going to have a struggle finding those white go go boots in your size anywhere else. Also, I called ahead of time and found that in a price comparison, the black and white striped stockings I needed are HALF the price at Junk for Joy than they are across the street at Halloweentown. I hope this store...
