Was a bad experience! I’ve bought quite a few things there in the past few years usually for Halloween but this time June 26th I went in to sell. My appt was at 2;30 and I got their early. I was told Wanda was running 15 minutes late. I spread out all my stuff in a dressing room and waited & waited & waited. She popped her head in a said a few more minutes. 3:00 hits and she is still In the room next door with another buyer. I had to be at work in West Hollywood at 4 and I’m getting frustrated. Her employees kept coming in and apologizing for her then I hear she finishes with her other appointment and goes to the front where I can still hear everything. About 3:10 I hear her employee tell her “your appointment is still waiting in the room for you” and Wanda replies “Oh.. I know” and still makes me wait another 10 minutes. She finally comes in and says sorry I fax to speak to a set stylist “ you know how it is. Whatever!! My time meant nothing to this woman so she goes through my stuff . A lot of stuff! Putting a pile aside she’s interested ini clouding jewelry. Sterling silver pieces among vintage costume etc. Then she asks what I want the everything and I told her to make an offer and she has the audacity to wave her had over everything and says $150 I told the jewelry alone is wirth more considering I had a Vintage spider with an amber stone for the body.i asked if she would do $200 and she says. “No..forget the clothes ehT do you eant for the jewelry? I was so appalled I couldn’t even think at that point. All I can think is I have to now pack up everything , be at work for my client, and this rude person just wasted my time.. I sold the jewelry for $60 and was so upset with myself when I left. I only wish I left with everything. She takes advantage of people. Her markup is so highly and most people know that shop there. I’ve sold things to other shops before but can’t remember ever leaving with feeling I had when I got out of there. Usually the buyer gives you prices fir each thing Individually so she get you by honing you a lowball price for everything. How so insulting. she apologized again for being late when I left but I now know she’s a condescending woman and was absolutely not sorry. What a weird bad experience. I make a point to support small businesses but I will never step foot in that store again! Wanda takes advantage of people that are trying to make a buck. I didn’t need the money like others that would of let her swoop all that stuff for $150. I could of sold a few pieces of the jewelry for more in weight if the silver. I even had a dress she looked and and said she doesn’t carry a dress that when I actually bought it there when I was a Carrie for Halloween and payed $60 for. Sorry fir the long winded review but it felt good to get it out release the negative feeling I...
Read moreI’ve been to Playclothes a couple times now, both ending with slightly disappointing experiences. The first time they had a lot of amazing clothes and when I was close to deciding on a cute 70s set that unfortunately did not fit me quite right, either the owner or sales associate offered to take a look at the piece for me to determine if the seam could be let out, but they just took it away and never came back to me with the item. When I was leaving the store, they just looked at me blankly and didn’t even say goodbye. This just made it seem like they were putting it away and had no intentions of checking on the item for me.
Today, towards the end of my visit, when I asked if they sold any fabric patterns, they told me they were not available due to the area being occupied/too congested. This was not the problem. The sales associate told me to it would be best to come back in an hour to check out the patterns. When I offhandedly said, “OK, I’ll come back in an hour,” the sales associate sort of just cut me off and Said, “OK sweetheart,“ a little brashly and essentially dismissed me.
I would’ve written up the first experience to be a weird one-off, but when I am repeatedly dismissed or not helped at a store, I am quite put off and would not like to return. Please reflect on how you treat...
Read moreI used to come to this store religiously, but I think they’ve fallen quite a bit in my opinion.
Their sales associate was quite rude when I went in and while they used to have a lot of the vintage clothes I was interested in, they no longer have the clothes that I am interested in. I used to love the women who worked in here, but it seems that since COVID hit they have changed quite a bit.
I’m not sure what happened, but I would say they have about half the amount of clothes they used to. They have a lot of home goods, which are fine, but the title is literally “Playclothes” implying they’d have more clothes than they did. To be honest, if I’m going to get vintage home goods, there are other places I’m going that are far more affordable in price. I’m super disappointed since coming here. Almost any antique store has a better selection than this store. The only difference is they have a (smaller) selection of clothes.
I hate to do this, but at this point if you’re looking for vintage clothing I’d definitely recommend hitting up other stores or online stores. They seem to be about the same price but with way more selection. Perhaps if they change their store back to what it used to be I would be happy going here, but as of right now, I’ll...
