Short version: Prices are the same as Amazon, superior products, great service, you get to try before you buy and take it home that day.
What a great experience I had yesterday at Relax the Back.
I first shopped on Amazon, but the shipping would take a week. Luckily, I decided to look at the RTB website, because they’re local. The prices were virtually identical. That was the first pleasant surprise.
I made it to the store with only 5 minutes to spare. I wanted to test the back rollers out and assured the store associate that I was aware of the time and that I’ll only be a minute or two. he said “no problem, stay as long as you’d like”. I’m used to associates trying to get out as soon as the clock ticks closing time, if not before. This was my second of many pleasant surprises.
I got talking to the associate and learned his name. It is Jullian Coleman. This is where my experience began to far exceed what I could have possibly expected. I was just buying an inexpensive back roller. Jullian clearly loves what he does and is very knowledgeable. I was there because my back hurt and wanted relief; Jullian seemed to be empathetic to that.
It’s now after closing time. He asks me if I’ve ever tried a zero-gravity chair. I said no. He got me set up in one and it was the best my back has felt in over a month. Like I said, he loves what he does and it shows. We talked all about the chairs, the company, back relief tips and before I knew it, we were talking about our families and where we live. To make a long story at least a little short, I stayed until past 7 PM! The store closed at 6! I felt as good or better than I do after a PT session.
I made sure to get Jullian’s card, because I couldn’t wait to write this glowing review. The products are superior, the prices are the same as Amazon and I was able to take it home that day. The best part, by far though, was Jullian himself. He loves what he does, is personable, kind, friendly, knowledgeable and hard working. When I left an hour after closing, he was still there working. Read moreMy experience at this store was perhaps the single best customer service experience I have ever had in my life. Jullian, the manager, will treat you like family. He is so motivated to help you, solve your problem, and share his passion for amazing chairs that you will never want to buy a chair from anyone else. His expertise is unparalleled. He spent hours with me explaining every last detail, going over every last option, allowing me to customize everything that I wanted. And even with all that effort, he never once pressured me to make a purchase. Even after I made my purchase, he offered to go above and beyond at every step - he even offered to come to my house and help me get fitted or change out the wheels of my chair. If a church (the best kind) and a chair store were to merge, Jullian would be its Pope! One that inspires you with his generosity of spirit. I ended up buying the LifeForm high back chair, which is the first chair that I really feel will allow me to sit and work at a stretch in a way that is truly healthy for my body. It was expensive but it was worth it, especially given the incredible examples Julllian gave of how he's helped people make repairs even 25 years after purchase. However, what sets this store apart from any other is the superb customer service provided by the manager, Nancy Hendrickson. She asks questions, makes recommendations, and helps you find just the right product for your specific requirements. She also goes above and beyond by making you feel valued as a customer. She remembers the items that you were interested in and keeps notes so that if you go in again, she already knows what you had previously looked at/considered purchasing. These days, this type of customer service is rare and when you find it, it's like finding an unexpected treasure! Other businesses would be wise to emulate the high standards that Nancy sets for customer service.
