Family Fare Supermarket — Local services in Byron Township

EDIT 2 WEEKS LATER: We got microwavable popcorn and it was expired. I should be better about checking expiration dates because this has happened MANY times now. This store needs to go, seriously.

This Family Fare location has really gone downhill the past few years. I only stop here if I absolutely HAVE to now. Today (Saturday afternoon), they only had 2 lanes open (one of which was a self check out), per usual, and my ice cream was half melted by the time I could pay for my couple of items. The lines are always ridiculously long and not enough cashiers.

Byron Center really NEEDS a nicer/bigger grocery store option in town. This whole strip mall is a dump, old, not well kept, the parking lot is falling apart, ESPECIALLY the road going back to that neighborhood, and is just a giant eyesore. People have to drive off road to avoid the tub-sized potholes. I wish all of the businesses would leave this strip, and someone would buy the land and develop a nice shopping center. Byron Center is one of the nicest communities in the GR area, but this shopping isn't keeping up with the clientele. I'm shocked Family Fare hasn't built a new...

💰 Cost • Prices are higher that the big box stores. • They give out gas coupons that you can redeem at the nearby gas station. • Weekly sales • Quality is generally better • There is a charge for curbside pickup

🔍 Tips • If you get curbside pickup often, the subscription to the Fast Lane is well worth it. • The subscription is cheaper than the others, and you don’t need a minimum order to get it.

🥇 Service • Friendly, courteous staff • They will text you while they are shopping your online order to ask about substitutions, and if you want to add anything to the order. • The communication for the Fast Lane pickup orders are the best.

The store was neat and orderly, as always.

Almost done shopping, another customer was perusing near the item I was looking for. I waited while keeping my distance, as it's my new normal. Even more so because she wasn't wearing a mask. When she sneezed, I gave up and checked out.

This is not meant to make Family Fare look bad. They have notices posted at the doors saying you cannot enter without wearing a mask, but they are also not allowed to ask you if you have a health condition keeping you from wearing one.

Please... Wear a mask! There are so many different kinds. You can even use a scarf or bandana. Please keep yourself and everyone around you...
