On the night of 12/7/24, I was attempting to go to a family friends bday party at the Calera Ella Lodge. My husband and I did not realize that the Calera parade was happening and ended up at one of the road blockages. I stopped in the south bound lane of 31 in front of dollar general because there was an officer blocking the lane. The two cars in front of me drove around the officer vehicle and proceeded to the city hall parking lot. I realized we needed to turn around so I turn on my left blinker to begin a three point turn, I thought this was okay because the two cars in front of me went around the officer. A female officer, unsure of her name, jumps out from around the back of her patrol car and starts screaming at me that the road was closed. I rolled down my winDow and said yes mam I realize that I am turning around the two cars in front of me went around your cruiser so I thought I could make a three point turn and leave. I had zero intention of going around her or her car. She screamed that I could not turn around and that I needed to exit via 7th avenue.. however her cruiser was blocking 7th avenue, so i had to no way to turn there. i asked her what she wanted me to do do… she screamed aggressively "ITS CLOSED!!!!" i said yes mam i understand how would you like me to turn? do you want me to go around your car or through the dollar grass? she again screamed and said “TURN OR SIT” then she put her hand on her hip which terrified me. i had zero intentions of attempting to go around the officer, into the parade, or disobey her. I was asking her what she wanted me to do three times, because her car blocked the road she was turning me to turn on. she never answered me only screamed at me. My five year old daughter was in back seat, she said that it scared her and shes never seen an officer act like that before. We wanted NOTHING to do with the parade, we only wanted to turn around. We were berated, accused and humiliated. I ended up driving through the grass of the dollar general, again, because her car blocked the entrance to 7th. it was very stressful because it was a tight squeeze, it was dark, and all we wanted to do at that point was to get the hell away from Calera and back to Chelsea where Shelby County officers treat citizens with respectful and are helpful when asked for assistance. Every citizen deserves to be treated with respect and dignity regardless of the circumstances. This has me questioning the integrity and professionalism of the City of Calera. We will never visit, pass through, or spend money in...
Read moreon April 24 2024 our garbage/maintenance man made his usual round, on this particular day, the garbage truck broke down right in front of my home. This led to chemicals spewing out of the truck. I called to request a cleanup on that afternoon someone arrived with a powdery substance within one to two days. I called and spoke with someone in office, due to the stains and dirt that had been left in front of my house. I am currently a new Calera residence. my question was is there anything else that can be done? The front office assistant told me there was nothing else that could be done based upon the stains and the dirt and debris that have been left. She stated “there was nothing else that could be done, and this will happen when you have city, trash or live in the city.” My thoughts were you work for the city, Correct? I reached out and called The superintendent left a message and no call back. No call was...
