Malone University — Local services in Canton

I graduated from here, and I think this was an excellent place to choose for undergraduate or graduate studies. This university subscribes to the Friends tradition, though they welcome students and staff from other Christian denominations and traditions. The student to staff ratio is low, so class sizes are smaller than the bigger universities. The staff here actually care about students' success and they care about the students as people. By and large they're good people. I would say I got a quality education. My only critique is that they require students to participate in a certain number of "SFO's" (Spiritual formation opportunities) ever semester or they face fines. This policy discriminates against poor students like I was who had to commute to save money and who had to work all through college to pay for my tuition, and SFO's were mostly a burden to be forced to participate in. And that's coming from someone strong in their faith. I believe a better solution would allow for students to earn SFO's by participating in, or worshipping with a local church or religious community. I was an active member of my church all throughout my 4 years at college and that should have counted towards my SFO's and they would not have been...

I live next to Malone. The kids that go their are incredibly rude and they are always cutting people off when they pull out of the campus. The University is so far removed from their surrounding neighborhoods and they don't care how many families they disturb or children they wake up. Two days after a couple of tramatic shooting happened near by they decided to light off fire works at 11pm. The Malone people who responded to the upset parents were judgmental and hurtful.
