So amazing! The nurses were wonderful and so helpful and supportive! I couldn’t have had a better stay! My only complaint was they had a student work with me and give me shots and stuff, and I didn’t like that because they never asked for my consent and sprung it on me. I had already had a very stressful couple days due to personal mama things, and it definitely added to the stress especially when she was nervous to give me a shot and kept asking for guidance from a more knowledgeable nurse who was in the room with her. As for food. Delicious. And, the cook was nice enough to make me something even after they had closed and didn’t have any sack sandwiches for me. Very sweet after delivery and being exhausted.

IU North Cafeteria FIRST Floor... I asked for two eggs over medium, turkey bacon, hash browns and wheat toast. What I got was well done eggs with burned edges, greasy limp bread griddles under the weight of an iron press, and cold hash browns so greasy they squished when I cut them with a fork. Over six dollars for the privilege of eating out of a Styrofoam box.

🤬 🚫🚫 Would really like to staff to read.🚫🚫 First off, I know like most hospitals there are those who care and those who don't. I would like to start off on a good note and say that there are a lot of really wonderfully sweet and kind nurses in the ER. Hannah was so sweet and so helpful. We had to bring my mother here her oxygen level had dropped extremely low and she is usually one of the nicest sweetest people you'll ever meet, but because of her oxygen level being low her thinking was really off and she has not been to a doctor in over decades and absolutely despise his hospitals because of bad experiences w others. So she was out of sorts and very scared, nervous, confused aggravated, and not very friendly that night, but Hannah was extremely kind and had a lot of patience with my mother. She did not treat her like she was one in a million she treated her like she was one out of a million. That's a 💎 in my book! There were a few others that were really kind to and I apologize that I wasn't able to get names. However, after being admitted because she needed oxygen for the rest of the night there was a nurse in a dark blue uniform that seemed to have a real attitude problem and as I was standing beside the trash can and she threw things into the trash right beside my face three times! Every time almost hit me in the face! I was so mad,but didn't say anything.then she just stood there with her arms crossed and said nothing. at 7:00- 730 a.m. Two nurses had came in and they have been in and out different nurses all night long every half hour to hour to either run some kind of test, blood work or just to check my mom. I repeat every 30 minutes to an hour! So that is 3 and a half hours time frame... Anyways after these two new nurses came in I'm guessing it's the beginning of their shift me and my mom are laying there wishing we could sleep and just laying there with her eyes closed. They come in and start working on the computer and put the little finger monitor on my mom to check her oxygen and heart rate and we both had our eyes closed as stated before so I know they believe we were asleep and the one of the nurses said oh no her oxygen level is only on I believe they said 83 and the other nurse said oh no oh no do not put that in the system because we will have to alert the doctor immediately we only have to alert the nurse if it's at some level but we have to alert the doctor if it's at some other level (mind you I've been up all night so I can't remember exact numbers.) And she said is she cold and I'm thinking what the heck I just talked to her I don't understand and she touched her hand and she said no and she said well maybe it's her fingernail polish here put it on my finger and we'll put her my O2 level on here. And I said excuse me, and they both jumped! I said is her O2 level her oxygen and they did not answer and then I asked again and I said please do not put your own reading on my mother's chart and why in the world would her oxygen level be that low when she's been on oxygen all night and that was the whole reason that she stayed. So after looking around for a little bit they looked up and seen that the lady that came in at 4:00 a.m. unhooked my moms oxygen machine from the actual machine that does not make any sense all she had to do was pull the oxygen mask off or turn it off she did not have to unplug it at all! Pull the tube out of the machine that's in the wall there was no reason for that!! She was the only one over there that had messed with it whatsoever and I know that! I would absolutely so livid that they would do that and just lie and would rather do that than admit that someone else had made a mistake it wasn't even them that it made the mistake they hadn't even been in there all night!!! After speaking with the next nurse, she said because it was in a quarantine it was different machines they weren't used to. So she was going to have to request new machines again because it's becoming a safety issue! 🤦 Ya think?!! 🤦🤷🤬 🚫This is absolutely...

I was admitted to the hospital on September 16,2025 for sertonin syndrome. I just wanted to give the most massive shout out to the staff at the hospital. I’m grateful for the ER doctor on the shift who recognized the signs and wanted to have me admitted. I grateful that she advocated for me against the doctor who wanted to refuse to admit me because he claimed it was just “anxiety”. She convinced him to do a psych consult and after that exam I was showing all the signs of moderate sertonin poisoning. I was put into ICU- thank god I was actually admitted because by the next day my muscles had locked up entire and I couldn’t move them, I started profusely shaking and vomiting uncontrollably. If I had been dismissed as the originally doctor had wanted- I would’ve been at even higher risk. I even remember the next day he came in, wanting to dismiss while I lay there sobbing, unable to move my muscles or my feet or my jaw. The psychiatrist came in again- retested and said I absolutely needed to be kept. He discussed giving me a drug to entirely stop the sertonin, as well as a treatment plan. Thank you specifically to him- Dr. Michael S. Metrick for not dismissing me as a “hysterical anxious” person. As I was truly sick and experiencing a very rare and potentially fatal condition of left untreated.

I had been dismissed from hospitals before for that- and the ended up having long lasting complications medically because I didn’t receive the medical care needed for a real medical issue that wasn’t anxiety- one such event left be bedridden and on strong doses of antibiotics to attempt to recover what should’ve been seen at the hospital.

The ER doctor I had that night and Dr. Michael made sure I didn’t have that experience again. The nurses were so attentive and lovely/ one specially named Leah brought me hot compresses when my limbs locked up and she held my hand as I sobbed because I just so badly and was so terrified and she promised me I was in good hands. All the PCPs were lovely, Ali was also another amazing night nurse that I had. I wish I could remember all their names because they deserve such credit- they are a credit to the medical field, the nursing, and to the hospital.

I have a long road of recovery as muscles, body, and mind have to recover from the traumatic health incident. I’m still unbalanced and weak but I’m stable, I’m safe, and they ran all the tests they could to ensure I was okay before sending me home as well as giving me numbers to contact should I have any questions regarding the treatment plan with medication post hospital as I recover.

Thank you IU health for treating me like a human being- for taking me seriously and realizing this wasn’t anxiety, but a very dangerous reaction to medication that needed emergency help and monitoring. Thank you for the kindness and humanity and care from your staff and their diligence. I felt safe to recover there and felt like I had the best grasp on understanding how long my recovery might take outside of the hospital as well as the medication and other support to help me to continue to safely recover.

I will forever recommend this hospital and laude those that...

I had been to three emergency rooms in a period of three months from being sick and being sent home. I could never get a doctor’s appointment in a reasonable amount of time and the ER was the last resort.

I got to IU and they triage you based on your symptoms and how severely injured or sick you are. I was losing a lot of blood and in the most pain I’d ever been in but it still took 3.5 hours to be called back to a room. I wasn’t given any pain meds or anything during this 3.5 hr wait. They were so busy that there were people strewn about the halls of the ER in beds. There were even people in the waiting room that had decided to leave after waiting for so long and being in so much pain but not wanting to continue waiting.

Once I was in a room, it took another 1.5 hrs or so to get fluids. Probably another 3/4 hours to be seen by a doctor, but nurses were in and out. I believe my entire ER visit was from about 10 AM - 8/9 PM when I was admitted. Nurses were incredibly kind but I was getting a lot of different answers from everyone and a lot of “I don’t know” which was quite concerning when I also didn’t know what was going on and was scared. That was a common theme I noticed amongst the nurses throughout the period I was admitted. I don’t mind an “I don’t know” as long as it’s followed by “but let me find out for you” but I rarely got that second piece.

Anyway, I had a CT done showing I had some issues that I could either choose to be admitted or go home and wait for a referral from a doc. Given how sick I’d been and for how long, I chose to go the admittance route where I was well taken care of and had a follow up colonoscopy and upper endoscopy the next day! The nurses, hospitalist, and GI were helpful in understanding a new diagnosis I’d been given. They were thorough in explaining some of my treatment options. I was told the GI would contact for a follow up appointment after being discharged, but I had to do the leg work on getting the follow up appointment scheduled as it seemed like they forgot about me. They did get me in quickly though after I reached out and I’m already being treated long term for my diagnosis.

I do not recommend getting your prescriptions filled there before you leave because it took forever waiting on them. They were sent as I was being discharged but I still ended up waiting in the pharmacy for 45 mins.

The food was also decent and if I didn’t call to order my food, the cafeteria staff always called to check on me to see if I wanted anything.

Last thing is there were two care type social workers that came in to visit with me during my stay and they both were insanely kind. They wanted to check to make sure I was comfortable and they made me feel comfortable telling them if something was wrong or I wasn’t happy about the care I was being given. I can’t recall their names but they both were amazing.

I’m giving 4 stars because I was finally admitted and taken seriously after having been brushed off at two other ERs and ignored by my PCP. I do think there’s room for improvement on how long it took to be seen and the “I...
