I arrived in Indy seeking a great food store, needing quality ingredients to prepare my grandmas meatballs and gravy for my family. Searched the internet, found Niemann Harvest Market and drove directly from the airport. To say I was surprised and pleased is an understatement.. I ordered multiple items from the butcher department. I got for the first nights dinner the marinated chicken breasts and loaded twice baked potatoes (5 stars) and got ingredients for my meatballs; sweet sausage, ground beef and pork. Let me say the loaded twice baked potatoes were simply delicious and the marinated chicken breasts tasted delicious grilled! The selections in the grocery area were fabulous too. I asked the young man in the dairy to help me locate mozzarella. Iām from New Jersey, honestly I was going to take what I could get, my snobby food expectations werenāt that high.(Sorry Indy) After a fun conversation with Geronimo he pointed me to the cheese department. I couldnāt believe it! I had my hands on a block of Parmesan Reggario! I was like a kid in a candy store! Letās talk about the wine..they had a fabulous wine selection and I scored a bottle of Pumpkin Something Whiskey. I circled the liquor display of their delicious fall themed spirits and I just couldnāt walk away without that bottle of Something Pumpkin. After the third circle, it made its way into my cart. In Jersey, we donāt have any alcohol in our food stores, itās always super convenient when I leave our state to find this is ā a thingā and I donāt have to find a liquor store too. I needed āgood breadā thatās how we say it in Jersey but they didnāt have what I was looking for, I made my way back to my new friend, and Geronimo guided me to the frozen section and suggested two types of frozen ciabatta bread. I got them because I could enhance the flavor with butter, garlic and fresh parm. I was giddy. I also needed whole milk for my meatballs (IYKYK) and he told me to try this new line of farm milk in a glass bottle. Ok Geronimo, yes, I will try the milk. This man didnāt not steer me in the wrong direction once. And then.. my shopping experience was enhanced with the cute seasonal section of home wares. They even had an apron cause I left mine at home in Jersey! Will I go back there next time I fly into Indy, hell yes! Even my family who lives 20 minutes away said they were going to shop at Harvest Market. I bought eggs for 99 cents! A large pumpkin for $8 and my canned tomatoes (San Marino Organic) under $4. A nice bottle of wine for under $18. I may have gone a little crazy but like I said, I was like a kid in a candy store with the selection and quality. Thank you Geronimo and the absolute adorable young girl checker and the sweet young boy who bagged my groceries in bags I didnāt have to pay for (again, IYKNYK). I would give 10 stars if I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo I never do this, but I want to share my experience with chicken. This sounds strange, Iām sure to most of you but I am experienced in the kitchen, have taken many many classes on gourmet cooking, and I have credibility when it comes to cooking. But this last experience with chicken has sent me to investigate what is going on! I made three different recipes of chicken over a period of two weeks, each one of the recipes I had to throw out , which were all my tried and true recipes. The chicken was tough and not edible. The taste was off. I knew something was wrong and I could tell the texture wasnāt right and this was making me crazy and then I thought maybe itās not me maybe itās the chicken. (And by the way, this has been going on for a very long time) but we become like robots and we go to the store and just buy chicken and then go home. So I actually went to Sean, the Store manager at Niemans Harvest Market in Carmel , where I love to go grocery shopping, and asked him what chicken does he recommend, I told him my whole story. So he has various brands and he said he would recommend Jones out of Missouri, he told me it comes in fresh on Tuesdays and Thursdays no steroids nothing pumped into the chicken and not previously frozen. I have previously purchased the famous brand which starts with the letter Tā, and there lies the problem. I thought because it was a name brand thatās the one I should be buying. I was so wrong. So I placed my order because I was expecting out-of-town company and I didnāt want to spend time making a dinner that was going to have a bad result, as has been my previous experience with chicken. I made my what I call my āsignature dish.ā I got from a restauranteur in Chicago where Iām from, always gets rave reviews. And this is the reason why Iām writing this review. It was outstanding and I had not realized it had not been that good for quite a while, and it had nothing to do with me cooking it, or the recipe, it had everything to do with the quality of chicken, very tender. The chicken pieces are not huge, they are size the used to be when you used to buy chicken!!!! I highly recommend going over to Niemans Harvest Market, in Carmel, and asking for their Jones chicken and you wonāt be disappointed. I never write these reviews because thereās always some negative person that has something horrible to say, so just wanted you to know, if youāre happy with your chicken move on. Iām not going to be reading any negative...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI just moved here on Saturday 3/1, and on Sunday 3/2, I found this store driving around town, it looked clean and well-stocked, the employees were extremely friendly. I explored the store and realized that they were serving breakfast and I ordered BYO Sandwich-Crossiant, Scrambled Eggs, Cheddar and Bacon. with Hashbrowns. Everything was excellent. I also bought I bought, banana split milk, and A2 milk-promise tyme (I think thats the name) and a warm apple fritter. I drank a swig of the A2 milk later in the day, it was good because I hadnt had milk in over 8 months due to milk just not tasting good, I shook it and tasted it. Later on I was so impressed with the breakfast, I wanted to try the soups, so I left my yoga class and arrived at the store to find that it had closed at 2pm. But funny thing is I had an urgency to use the bathroom, it was diarrhea, I had to run to the bathroom. I went home immediately, I noted this was my 2nd movement, I only eat one-two times a day and diarrhea is not normal as a nurse. I figured it was the milk and didnt think much of it. Today, MOnday, 3/3/25 I came back to the store to try the soup and salad, (zupa toscana), since they were closed yesterday at 2pm. I took it home and again, the food was great. That was 12-1pm but by 5:30pm I started to have pains and I ran to the bathroom again, this time, I'm throwing up along with having diarrhea. So now either the staff's not washing their hands, the food has reached the spoilage date and yet they still cooked it or the food has been undercooked and not brought to the right temperature. This is ridiculous! There is no way, my body is reacting to food like this. Especially since, that's all I had today, yesterday I thought maybe the milk gave me diarrhea, but now vomiting and diarrhea! The place is beautiful and appears clean, but I would be careful of the cooked food, they do need to wash their hands more, change out gloves moves, clean the utensils more often, etc. Something is wrong. But once I unpack, I can cook my own food, its the only reason I've been eating out.
P.S.I almost forgot, the apple fritter from the day before was consumed this morning, it was great!! So between breakfast and lunch, I only had baked and cooked food from...
