Today, I received clear permission from the clubhouse to hop on from my house and play the back nine at Silver Oak. I was walking the course alone, playing respectfully and at a steady pace. Immediately after I began, a group of elderly men behind me started hitting into me — and it kept happening.
The first incident happened while I was in the rough taking practice swings. A ball landed just five yards away from me. I was caught off guard — confused about who these men were and why they were hitting toward me while I was clearly still playing the hole. I let it go and continued.
But after I finished the hole and was walking off the green, it escalated. One of their shots flew about 10 yards over my head — a dangerously close call. At that point, I turned around and told them to stop hitting into me.
Instead of apologizing, they drove up to me and immediately got aggressive. They cursed at me and accused me of cutting in front of them. I calmly explained that I was walking the course and had permission to start on the back nine. One of them looked straight at me and said:
“We don’t even care — just get out of the way when we hit.” That moment ended my round. I walked home — not because I wanted to, but because I no longer felt safe. I refused to escalate the conflict, but staying would’ve meant accepting that kind of reckless and hostile behavior, and I couldn’t do that.
This wasn’t a misunderstanding. It was deliberate, aggressive, and unsafe. Golf is supposed to be a game of patience, respect, and integrity. Today, I saw none of that. I was hit into repeatedly, spoken to with open hostility, and forced to leave a round I had looked forward to.
No golfer — walking or riding, young or old — should ever be made to feel like an obstacle in someone else's rush. Safety is not negotiable. Respect is not optional. And no round of golf is worth putting someone else in danger.
I truly hope the kind of behavior I experienced is the exception — and that we can all do better to protect the dignity of the game and the well-being of those who love it. I also hope the course takes this seriously and finds ways to help prevent situations like this...
Read moreHey everyone, first day, I'm returning to practice after spending some time on the injured reserve. I am here in beautiful and mountainous Carson City Nevada with a little bit of time to burn, a few clubs in the car, and an itch to be scratched. so off I went to find a driving range and wound up at Silver Oak Golf Course.
From the driving range looking out over the course, the course seems to be in good enough condition pretty windy out there. that's because the course is located kind of on this flat pan at the bottom of this basin. Unfortunately the driving range did leave a little bit to be desired it's goes down you hit up about 50 yards in the nurses a good 50 yards or more drop into the Dugout pit where the yard markers are there and probably seem to be marked a little long or I'm just getting weaker. Unfortunately, the balls were pretty well beat up and used. And so the ball flight was of no consequence anyway. The chipping green with adequate with the exception of the rollout on the actual Greenwood is very long and Shaggy and so there was no roll out you just have to know when you were hitting the ball properly wasn't disappointed I got the practice time and I'm so so so Advanced golfers I don't think you'd find the practice facilities necessarily adequate all in all I like the course I'd like to play it go out there and play it back to me and see how it went please like this and follow me...
Read moreNice big boys layout. Good and fair multiple tee settings. Fairways have large landing areas and greens are big enough to hit. Not a 'close' course but a challenging one. I like for courses that challenge you in last four holes and this course does that. If you get tired or tend to let down on last holes this course will grab you. Probably hybrid greens but they role true and none of those hybrid green gotchas where ball screams off line with unseen grain. Greens are soft enough. No longer on GolfNow where last year we played for Hot Deals of $23. Now they use there on website and $30 is best price and covers after 1:00 PM on Thur, Saturday and Sunday. Course was closed in past on Monday but shows no T times for Tuesday and Wednesday next week Sept 29th and 30th. I'm guessing they are open on those days but website has no T times. It says $30 for foursome so I don't know what they will try to charge you if you show up with two. I talked to them in person and they claimed prices were better without GolfNow which as usual in businesses today, you can't believe them. I will say that even at $30 this is a bargain golf course considering the overbuilt condition in the golf industry today and for this really nice...
