Prime Restaurant? Not!
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. I have purchased over $1,000 in gift certificates for Christmas and we've have looked forward to celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions at this restaurant.
But after the fiasco we were put through last night, we do not plan on returning. My husband looks forward to a great steak, but do not expect one here! Rib eye is on the menu, but don't count on seeing one anywhere nearby that's not on the hoof. Three visits over the span of thirteen months, and the waiters still have the same lame excuse-- "The chef sent them back for being not good enough." But last night was sheer madness. With early reservations, we were relieved to see "prime grade rib eye" listed as one of the evening's specials. Two of our party of four were relishing the thought of this entree and ordered.. My friend needed a bit more time to decide on the menu, but the waiter took the order. He did not return for her order for over twenty minutes, and when he did return, he claimed that the rib eyes were sold out...half an hour after we placed our orders! All of us were upset (this was the third time in a row that we had been told that we could not have what was clearly advertised) but the gentlemen disappointedly settled for the New York cut.
That would have been the end of it, but the steaks came and were terrible-- chewy tough, gristley, with poor taste. Definitely not worth the $31.00 price. I tasted my husbands and could not even finish the tiny bite. The other gentleman could not even eat half of his. I was thinking to myself that I could have bought a much better steak, even a rib eye, at Walmart.
My sea bass was wonderful, and I wondered how a restaurant could deliver one thing so good and another so bad. But what frustrated us more than anything was the waiter's cavalier, "too bad" attitude. Altogether, we felt as if we were more of a bother to him than his customers. No one seemed to be around to see if we needed anything, except when it might be an opportunity to order more food such as dessert. A sheer scrap of bread for each of us four. We felt cheated.
It also surprised us that the advertised "prime" grade steak was an oddity for the restaurant-- in other words, they usually served supermarket choice grade meat? I had assumed that for the price, they always had prime grade beef.
This is not a cheap restaurant for the region. There are few fine dining restaurants south of Reno. But for the prices, we won't be returning for a crap shoot of what's available or whether it...
Read moreI'm terribly disappointed in Kim the owner's response to my employees using a gift card that I purchased at the restaurant for Christmas. She was rude to my employee when he tried to use the card for takeout and rude to me when I called her. When I bought the cards and paid full price I was told me to keep the receipt with the cards and they be could used when ever we wanted. That turned out not to be true according to Kim. She was very insistent to my employee that she would not accept the cards at all. After a very long argument she finally told him he could use the cards only after contacting her directly. I called her to voice my displeasure on the way this was handled and found her again argumentative and rude. Customer service is more than a phrase. It is a true care and appreciation for your customers. This was not Kim's attitude at all. We did agree to a full refund. I have lived in Carson for over 60 years and feel a strong bond to all the local businesses. Our family does all it can to support them thru these very tough times. We have enjoyed eating at the restaurant since they opened and used them regularly for many large family events and company holiday parties. Never again Post Note to Kim's response: It seems facts can be rewritten any way that fits the mood. My employee told me that they argued about the gift card use for quite some time before Kim relented on its use. You also where very rude with me about the purchase and use of the cards. The $400.00 gift cards where purchased at your cashier in the restaurant and paid at full price. NO DISCOUNT. This was the point of contention in our phone call. You just don't seem to get that the money was paid up front in full for the food to be ordered. I was told by the young lady who said she was a manager that they could be redeemed any time we wanted. If you don't want to honor the gift cards that you SELL then don't SELL them. I think this response from Kim speaks for its self. A long time customer buys gift cards for his employees as a Holiday gift from a local restaurant. This purchase is because the Virus restrictions in place prevented us from having the Christmas dinner we do every year at this restaurant for our employee's. The employee try's to order a dinner and there is a complete melt down from the manager and owner on using the money already paid to them. Wow! Any way you try to spin this, it's terrible...
Read moreThis is our overall favorite restaurant in CC. It's not hard to understand why. We've been here maybe 12-14x in the last 8 months but not recently because of covid sadly. We have not had ONE bad meal. Not ONE. They've all been outstanding! Service here is also awesome, Tiffany and Charity always take super good care of us and any friends we invite from out of town. In fact, our friends were so impressed, they begged us to take them back again the following night (ribs? and marsala they loved) since they couldn't get enough of it, it was just that good. Another family friends of ours said this was better than all the high end meals we just had up in Tahoe at the resorts the week prior. Even the basic bread and Ceasar salad delivers ....these are just the basics and they overwhelm. The Macadamia nut encrusted SeaBass tastes like a maple pancake coming from above. The spicy Ajo (not on menu) based pasta is off the charts tasty and unlike any other pasta sauce I've ever had, flavor wise. One day, out of sheer curiosity, noticed homemade chips and salsa were bring offered. I thought, there's no way they'd get this as good as the other high caliber items, it won't be good. To my surprise, the chefs' many salsa cups were full of some insanely amazing flavors that were truly amesome for a non Mexican restaurant, and was shocked. The homemade chips were also ridiculously fresh and tasty. Unreal. Sadly, I have zero evidence and photos of any of this. Maybe since it's a higher end place, feels tacky taking pics of food in there, yet either way this place is chill. My wife and I like restaurants that cater to an older crowd, we enjoy the "old school" mix. Only things I can say that needed a little help, the mixed drinks didn't do anything great and were underwhelming, so normally I stick with beer or ice tea. Wife loves the house chard, Canyon Ridge Chardonnay, it's one of her personal favs. Also, any idea when the eaves will be fixed in the front parking area, looks a bit unsafe and visually unappealing for such an amazing place. Feel bad for any of the other reviews that didn't get the same experience we'd consistently have had. GE's is a gem of a place, so glad it's here in CC. Looking forward to when you guys do a braised short rib, my absolute favorite dish! Maybe even a chimichurri skirt...
