I went into the emergency room and was diagnosed with covid and strep throat. I had been suffering for four days prior but couldn't get out of bed until today with help. I had been running a fever between 101 and 103 ongoing. The first nurse to give me care and who put an IV in my arm asked me if I was employed. To me this was inappropriate and made me believe I had to explain myself and or why I am not employed at this time. I thought to myself she must have seen my insurance was Home State Medical and she's judging me. So I told her that's a loaded question and I went on to tell her what my situation is and why I am not currently employed. My wife married 26 years taught special education in public schools for 27 years. Myself I owned a plumbing and drain cleaning company for 26 years and we are from Northern Indiana. Just this past year we sold our home in Indiana and I dissolved my business so that we could relocate to a place with a better climate. We are use to 70 plus inches of snow a year (Lake Affect) from Lake Michigan. I purchased our camper two years prior for our journey. We left Indiana and set off on our journey to find our last stop (so to speak). My wifes sister had a stroke seven years earlier and had been living with us for the past two years. She was with us including our Golden Retrievers. My wife died unexpectedly while we were traveling of a pulmonary embolism. We were five minutes from a hospital and they could not save her. We came to this area last winter to try and find a home but so far we are still living in a campground. I've put several purchase offers in but keep falling short since I no longer have my wife's income to qualify. My sister-in law is on blood thinners (Afib) for her heart was diagnosed with Breast cancer just five months ago. She's had surgery including radiation therapy since and just finished three weeks ago. Both of my dogs have passed away in the past three months. I told this nurse all of this and she did not say one word of empathy. She said that she lived an hour North of the hospital out in the middle of nowhere. Then she was was aggressive when putting in my IV and hurt me. She put the IV in between my forearm and my bicep where I bend my arm. I have rocky arms with lot's of veins but this is where she chose to administer the IV. I knew something was wrong because it hurt so bad. After I was diagnosed with covid and strep throat she comes in and say's well you got two for one, indicating that I made out on the system making it sound like I'm getting special treatment or getting a double dose of care through the system. She was flat out short and rude the entire time I was there. Update 10 days later my arm is still in major pain (8 out 10) and bruised. My vein in my bicep is swollen and appears as if a worm or snake is underneath my skin. Both my first and second finger have been throbbing and feel weak when I use my hand. I cannot touch my arm without excruciating pain. I called the emergency room with advice on what to do. They told me to come back to the emergency room. I went back and the doctor said there is nothing they can do and if it doesn't get better then see a primary care physician for a possible referral to a vein specialist. In other words don't come back. I have no idea what to do at this point and I am losing strength in my arm. Something is majorly wrong and I believe the nurse wanted to hurt me. She definitely judged me and showed absolutely no empathy or care for me....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had to be seen in the ER recently and I was not pleased with how I was treated. I came in with a migraine that has lasted more then 18 hours after taking medication to help which didn't improve. I had a nurse name Larry(name on his badge) he touched all of the packages and opened them with NO gloves on.. put gloves on to put the needle in but ripped a piece of glove off his finger so he could feel my vein.. he put 2 kinds of medication through my IV and didn't tell me what he was putting in it.. I was not allowed to bend my arm since he had a regular needle for my iv which made it very uncomfortable. I asked to have it taken out because it was hurting and I also had to use the restroom. They gave me Benadryl and a nausea medication.. how does that have anything to do with a migraine? As I was coming back from the restroom I had asked for a doctor's note for work in case my migraine was worse in the morning and a blonde lady sitting there said "so she's just here to get a doctor's note then?" That was just rude.. I've had good care at this hospital before but that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently had to visit Carthage E.R. I had Dr. Featherly. He saw me in 2015 when i was in horrible pain and had neuropathy in my hands. He said i would be disabled in a little while and told me why. Degenerative disc disorder. I thought no way! Not me. Wow. Was i wrong. I started dropping my painting tools for no reason. My hands didnt work right. The pain was so bad i slept all day. It caused anxiety that felt like i was having a heart attack all day. No other doctors has been so insightful and correct. I mean spot on. He should be the Dean of Medicine somewhere! When you go through what i have you begin to doubt and think you can do things you shouldn't or that its in your head. After tearing my meniscus and other injuries. I know i shouldve trusted Dr. Featherly sooner. The "Morality" crisis not opioid crisis has left me tortured. If people had morals they wouldn't abuse drugs and leave the rest of us in the wake of despair for them and because of them. I feel for the loss of lives and lives that have to be lived without...
