Greg's Lawn & Landscaping — Local services in Cedar Rapids

I'd requested lawn mowing and fertilization/herbicide services from Greg's Lawn a couple of months ago. During the first mowing, they cut areas too short killing some of my lawn and they damaged my trees to boot. I informed them of the damage but gave them a pass, because my lawn is very uneven so I trusted they'd do better the next time. The next time, the lawn had barely grown and I had been told by the office that they wouldn't cut if the lawn was too short because it wasn't healthy. Needless to say, they mowed the lawn anyway. Far worse it had rained recently and when they drove around my lawn with their mowers, they made massive divots in my yard and tore up large sections. At this point I was done with them. That day I informed them that I would be cancelling all services and that I shouldn't have to pay for either of the mowings which had done more damage to my lawn than I owed them. I also asked if they wanted to do anything to make right the damage to my property. I never received a reply, but found out that someone from the service came over to my house without notifying me the next day and tried to clean up some of the areas and spread seed. They managed to get into my backyard which was locked which seems legally problematic. Almost a month later, I get home from a vacation to find an invoice in my mail box for a fertilization/herbicide treatment. So Greg's Lawn again came onto my property without notifying me and attempted to charge me for it. Since I had already cancelled all service there was no way I was paying for it. It speaks to the competency and organization of the company that after so many mistakes they manage to mess up again almost a month after I'd finished with them. Consequently, if I could I would give negative stars to counteract the positive reviews and save other people...

STAY AWAY. Don’t waste your time or money. I spent $1.2k+ on snow removal this winter as I’m recovering from an injury and can’t plow. This company is absolutely predatory and I feel for the seniors who they are scamming out of thousands each year. They will say they lay salt when they do not and charge you. They will lay salt when it’s going to be 60 degrees the next day and charge you. My driveway was consistently the last driveway plowed each snowfall by 24 hours or more.

They will drive right over your yard, push rocks into your yard, and dig up your grass. They won’t fix any of these issues unless you’re a “full service customer” which means they scam you for both snow removal and landscaping. Greg refused to acknowledge this on the phone saying this damage to my yard is all just part of snow removal. They finally laid new grass seed on part of my yard they dug up after a month + of me threatening to not pay my outstanding bill. They refused to fix the ruts or pick up rocks, and went straight to threatening small claims court. What an absolutely...

Ten-twelve years ago we hired Greg’s Lawn Service to care for our yard. They did an excellent job. We had the best looking yard on the block(s). So recently we hired them again – different house. Somewhere, sometime between then and now their services have declined. The star rating is for the beautiful retaining wall they built, ground leveling and the brick pathway they restored in our back yard. They work well with heavy equipment. It’s the fine-tuning they apparently find unimportant to a home-owner/senior citizens. So for three weeks with a leg brace (waiting for surgery) and ignoring medical instructions while I wait, I’ve hobbled around in pain cleaning up rock, raking up twigs and spraying weeds, etc. My husband completed the step construction, moved dirt, hauled debris away etc. We were told to call them if we needed further help. We tried – three times. Calls have not been returned. ‘Disappointed’ puts it mildly. We’re looking for another lawn service to help with fertilizer, seeding and...
