Jon's truly is a world-class pipe-shop. Every place I travel to, I try to visit the local tobacconists. They're all dying out, or turning into almost pure cigar shops. [That is if you find a real pipe shop, and not a head-shop that sells portable scales and incense.]
Jon's is amazing. They have an insane selection of pipes. There's a reason one of the world's best pipe-makers (The Danish Former) visits Jon's first thing upon coming to the U.S. If you can't find a nice new pipe you like, dip into the estate pipe drawers. There's always a pipe you'll love from $25 all the way up to $200+ in the estates. They're one of the few shops I've ever found that have most major well known pipe tobacco blenders on hand to sample and sell by the oz. (from bulk). They even have the St. Germain's in bulk! Almost unheard of. Couple oz's of Penzance, no problem. So, for pipes, you can't go wrong.
But, it doesn't end there... they have walls of cigars kept in their humidor, from the $1 to the $25+, and are very knowledgeable with these as well. Heck, they even sell Hookah tobacco and nasal snuff if that's more your style.
Don't let the single aisle put you off, it's not airy because they have so much stock on hand, I much prefer to have to elbow my way through amazing tobaccos and pipes than sit in a swanky chair at a place without this selection.
So far they're tops in my books, and everyone coming into town is sure to stop in when they visit, there's a reason why! But, don't trust me, go see...
Read moreI've been going to jons pipe shop since they were on green street and also their new location on university Ave. I can't stress enyough how helpful everyone who works there is. I started with cigars and moved to a pipe.. Since I moved away about 5 hours to be exact I haven t visited as much but there's an arecheologist who work a there that was super nice to this first time pipe smoker. Corn cob pipes are the way to go... I have only ordered thier stonehedge pipe tobacco... They now ship to me. So I am a repeat customer to this day.... If you're in Chicago or sourrounding areas and looking to hang out and smoke in a pipe shop this is the place to be. The patrons along with the staff are good company. The new location has a club house as well. But I just sit in the main lobby since I'm...
Read moreI was a frequent visitor to Jon's back in my U of I grad school days (30+ years ago), and recently was passing through Champaign and stopped back in on a whim. I had forgotten just how great a place this niché shop was, especially for something that has become as taboo as tobacco.
Better selection than I remembered, and the smoking lounge was a wonderful surprise! Staff was as friendly and knowledgeable as I recalled, and I must say I truly enjoyed myself while there!
On that visit, I purchased 2 pipes and 2 blended tobaccos, and have already been back once, ordered by phone once, and I'm looking forward to my next visit.
If you are a tobacco enthusiast, there is no equal to Jon's as a destination to satisfy your desires (and I didn't even start in on their quite impressive...
