I have tried a lot of sushi in the Champaign area but absolutely nothing compares to Ko Fusion. I’ve taken two different people here that swore up and down that they didn’t like sushi or even seafood and they walked away saying how good it was and that they would definitely come back. Everything is so amazingly fresh I love it. I can literally eat their ginger for days it’s so good. By far my favorite sushi is the flaming phoenix. It’s a whole little experience but it tastes soooooo good. Besides that I do like the fusion, the firecracker is good too. But I’ve had most of the whole menu (they added two new rolls I can’t wait to try) and you can’t really go wrong with anything. I haven’t had a lot of the drinks there (I’m normally the driver) but the little sips I have are really good, I think it’s a white dragon and maybe a red or green dragon and those were really good. The parking lot looks like it will be paid parking but they give you a token for it to be free. Staff is normally really good about asking that before you leave. Speaking of the staff, I have never had a bad experience here. All staff are extremely friendly, and one of the times I went here I stayed probably 30min after they were supposed to be closed. I never felt like they were pressing me to leave or anything even though that would’ve been completely justified, I left a very large tip that night for obvious reasons. Also I haven’t had his service in a while but Wyatt is an amazing staff member and if you get him, you’re in good hands. I could write a book about how passionate I am about how good Ko Fusion is but there would definitely have to be a disclaimer in that book which is: Ko Fusion is very expensive! I normally go with one other person and bills can range between 200-300 without tip. BUT, I order a lot of stuff. When I go I expect to take sushi home. I think a normal sane person would have a lower bill but I have never felt like it was a dollar spent unwell either. 11/10 highly recommend, you just can’t go all the time, just...
Read moreI eat there everyday during the week.I love the buffet. I read a whole bunch of the reviews to see how others perceive it. Those who complained, were mostly talking about service. Well, let's face it, sometimes you will get bad service, but here I guess I have been lucky, because even when they didn't know who I was, they took excellent care of me and my guests. I can tell you Janet, and Barry (the owners) are all about clean, clean, clean! They probably have the cleanest commercial kitchen in town. Oh wait! The Ko-fusin by Krannert does. (Because it is newer) They spare no expense when it comes to keeping the place updated. I know this because I do much of the work. I am the head of maintenance for the building. When yours friends say they don't like sushi, first of all they have never tried it, but they are afraid of raw fish. Well that is what the beef roll, shrimp, and lobster rolls are for. They are cooked. Did I mention the beef roll? They must marinade it in crack, cause I cannot get enough of that one. It is unlikely you will see as many small trucks and cars making food deliveries to any other restaurants due to the farm to table, free range, antibiotic free, fresh ocean seafood, etc. they have flown in. If you are going for the sushi, then skip the buffet and order off the menu, otherwise the buffet is great! Also, don't forget Nigel's great dishes too. He makes excellent selections which change every now and then, so go back again and again. Also, the stir fry is awesome, whether you choose chicken, seafood, or beef, the sauce is incredible. One thing to consider about service is that the really good ones have been there a long time, and it is because they are good. It is usually the ones that are not that good that don't last and may have something bad to say, but it stems from their lack of attention to detail, and excellent service that cause...
Read moreWe brought our son here for his birthday this past weekend. We've been. trying to branch out from his stalwart faves closest to campus, so we were able to get him to come down to Ko Fusion to try something new.
First and foremost: there is a parking lot. Not the biggest lot, but we found a spot and the parking is free! Just bring in your receipt and they exchange for a parking token for when you leave.
It's a nice. large restaurant that is not very noisy so it makes for good conversation when dining. There is a covered patio for inclement weather, too! We were seated in a booth and I have to say, whoever designed the booths actually used their brains in the design. The bench seating is actually far enough away from the table so you aren't smushed up against the table. That's a huge plus!
We started with the edamame and the Sweet & Spicy Korean Chicken Wings. The edamame was nicely steamed and came with an extra bowl for the discarded pods. Our son had the wings which were huge and came with a creamy slaw on the side to diffuse the spiciness of the wings.
As for sushi, my son ordered the Rainbow roll, Spicy Salmon Roll, and the Firecracker roll. They all looked great. My wife stuck to her normal rolls: two of the Spicy Tuna. I ordered the Coconut Shrimp and Mango (hold the mango) and the Flaming Phoenix roll (also held the mango). I will say this. I have been eating sushi for over 10 years and the Flaming Phoenix is my hands down favorite of any place I have ever been. Shrimp and butterflied shrimp. It was delicious! The presentation was awesome too.
It is slightly on the pricy side, but this is definitely a more upscale place than other sushi places in Champaign and you are definitely paying for quality sushi. They were insanely fresh, flavorful, and large in size.
This is now my go to sushi...
