Poppycox Nashville Hot Chicken — Local services in Charlotte

The sandwich wasn't bad, but not as good as the other reviews hype it up in my opinion. I ended up getting a lil hot which the employee informed me was supposed to be relatively the same heat level as a chik fil a spicy chicken sandwich, but it was much spicier. A bit disappointing just because I was looking for something more mild today with a slight kick, the name is kind of misleading.

The fries were a total miss for me, they are coated in some kind of mild spicy seasoning which had a chemical aftertaste. I don't really understand why there's no option for normal fries, maybe I could have asked but it didn't specify so I assumed the only fry option would be plain fries. It just seems excessive for everything in the meal to be coated in seasoning, would be much nicer to have the fries be more of a palate cleanser between bites of the sandwich. I guess that's what the coleslaw is for, I would have ordered it instead of fries if I knew the fries were also just coated in spice and especially if I knew they would taste...

Edited….. Today was the third time we visited the Poppycox food truck, and let me tell you, the 3rd time was a charm because it was AMAZING! My husband got the Sandro hot, and I had the Tendies mild, and they did not disappoint. The flavor was on point and the heat was perfect. The fries were delicious and it was all cooked to order, hot and fresh. I totally understand that things happen and the owner made it good. I’m glad we gave them another try because we would have been missing out. Best Nashville Hot Chicken in NC!!!!

Extremely disappointed in Poppycox. Today is the second time I have tried to visit their food truck. I arrived at Overflow, bar listed on Poppycox’s website at 5:30. The website stated that the food truck would be there from 1-8. The manager informed us that the food truck packed up a left early.

We tried visiting a little over a month ago at Gypsy Roads Brewing Company and we’re told that they did not show up.

I recently had the opportunity to try Poppycox, and I'll say they exceeded expectations! I ordered the Tendies - "Stoopid hot" (more on that shortly), as well as a sandwich "hot". The sandwich was sublime, well cooked... Tender, yet not greasy as many Nashville style sandwiches can be, instead so delectably crispy. The seasoning was as true to Nashville style as I've found in CLT and topped with a delicious and well balanced slaw+pickle combo which rounded it out nicely.

That being said, the Stoopid Hot tendies were a whole other world... I knew what I wanted in spice and was not disappointed! I'm a chili head who's standard is Carolina Reaper...
