believe in giving credit where credit is due. I have just finished my artificial knee replacement surgery and recovery. I had my surgery at Park Ridge East Ridge where they did a great job. When it was time to transfer me to rehab not knowing much about it, I chose Siskin Rehabilitation Hospital and I am very glad I did. Even though recovery of double knee surgery is very painful and not for the faint of heart, which is what I found out, there were so many kind, caring, knowledgeable, professionals at Siskin, I am still amazed at my progress. Starting with people on the acute care floor I want to thank nurse Kathy who when I need a transfusion at lunch time made me peanut butter and crackers to make sure my blood sugar didn't bottom out because I am living with diabetes. And she always had a cherry smile that helped lift my spirits. I want to thank Angela and Stacy also for their quality assistance and helping to keep.my mood up. Some of the techs I would like to thank are Cassandra, Allen, Terry, and Alexis. Allen, Terry and Alexis were super with how cheery they were too. One little thing that helped immensely was when they brought my food tray, the took off any seals or tops that covered the food. When you are in pain you really don't need any more aggravation getting to your food. By the way, the food was awesome. I was on a diabetic restricted diet and someone from good services came daily after supper to help me choose the next day's diet and had an app that counted my carbs. And when I went over the carb count they help make choices staying within my restricted diet. PT was tough but I hand some great physical therapist starting with Jenna and Autumn and then Occupational Therapist Michelle. Once I asked Autumn, "Do we have to do this today?," Iny usual whine and she said, "We have to at least try." She had me there because I couldn't argue with that logic.
Outpatient PT was next. Emily was my first PT person and she was great and ways mindful of my pain level so I didn't lose ground by overdoing it. And I got to know PT people like Ross, David, Mitchell, and Margee. When I was in the acute care unit PT & OT were ever day sometimes PT more than once a day. I was glad for the weekend thinking no PT. Boy was I wrong. Valerie came on Saturdays. She was very kind and was mindful of.my pain level. Sometimes I got to work with her in the Outpatient gym too and she was a hot to work with. I also want to thank the folks in the appointment and sign in office, Shae and Lynda who kept me up on my appointments. I like the fact that a day or do before your appointment, they send a text reminder. I want to thank my Orthopedic doctor, Dr. Apyan for super care. This was an interesting journey. I can now do things I can do before my surgery. At 68 I am way too young to be relegated to a wheel chair for the test of my life. My mjaor goal was to climb up into my pickup truck and drive which I can now do. Yayyyy đ đ...
Read morePLEASE READ BEFORE SENDING A LOVED ONE HERE!! My original post has been taken down, but I feel itâs very important that my familyâs experience with Siskin be shared so others may know the risk of putting a loved one here. A little over 2 years ago, my father had bypass surgery and was released from the hospital to the care of Siskin for cardiac rehab. Upon my arrival to see him, it was very evident that he was suffering from stroke symptoms. He was confused, lost his vision, had a headache among other obvious symptoms of a stroke. I mentioned this to his ânurseâ Pam, and she was quick to dismiss my concerns, stating that he was just fine and he was probably still having side affects from being put under for the surgery??? I told her I knew something wasnât right, and that his doctor that preformed the surgery wanted to see him to ASAP as he felt he was suffering from a stroke. Pam immediately got an attitude and informed me that my dad couldnât leave because he was now âproperty of Siskinsâ. I had to get my dads Dr (who was in surgery at the time) to call Siskin for them to even allow me to take him next door to Erlanger to be seen by his dr. Pam then informed me that she wasnât going to give my father his medications or bring him meals because âwe didnât want him thereâ. She spoke of my father in such a degrading manner right in front of him as if he were just a piece of trash. It was the single most heartbreaking experience of my life. Hours later, once we were finally able to get another nurse to help with releasing him, we learned that he had suffered a massive stroke and unfortunately, too many hours had passed at this point to be able to give him medication to reverse the damage. I understand that mistakes happen in the medical profession and that sometimes people donât always get it right. It happens and people are human. I could honestly understand if Pam just gave me the wrong information. And give her the benefit of the doubt that she just made a mistake. But the way that she treated my father and our family at our darkest hour is just inhumane. She was heartless, cruel and ego driven. She didnât even treat my sick father like a human being. Two years later, I still get sick to my stomach when I think about this. But as I mentioned before, I feel that itâs very important to share this experience so that others understand the risks associated with Siskin. I imagine this hospital worked pretty hard to get my original review down, but they never so much as acknowledged what happened to my father. To my knowledge, ânurseâ Pam still works at this facility. I do have video of this incident for anyone that...
Read moreWe had a terrifying experience with my father at this place. The ânurseâ, Pam, didnât even treat my father like a human being. He had just had cardiac bypass surgery and was at Siskins for rehab until he was strong enough to come home. Once he was there, we noticed some major changes in him (vision loss, confusion, headache and inability to walk) and we mentioned these concerns to Pam. We told her that we were worried that he could have suffered a stroke and she was very adamant that it was just his meds from surgery and a lack of sleep.. even bringing in a doctor to assure us that he was fine and this was normal. As a family, we decided to get another opinion from the doctor that performed the bypass surgery. When we told Pam, she said he could not leave as he was now âproperty of Siskinsâ. We had my fathers Dr call Siskins to discuss him being checked out by his team at Erlanger hospital next door.. the Dr agreed that it was crucial that we get him checked ASAP and said it would be several hours before we could get him in, but that we could wait at Siskins until a room was opened at the hospital. Pam came in shortly after and said we needed to leave right away.. that we could go wait in the ER waiting room for hours because âthatâs what we wantedâ.. saying they would refuse to give him his meds, food and so on. She went on to tell us about a time that she had a stroke and was treated at Erlanger and how it was an absolutely terrible hospital... I could go on and on about the unethical, heartbreaking things that Pam did but I wonât waist your time. My dad was admitted to Erlanger later that day where we learned that he had suffered a major stroke. If it was just the fact that they missed the very obvious signs of a stroke, I could almost overlook that and understand that everyone makes mistakes.. but the fact that Pam treated my sick father like garbage, making degrading remarks in front of him and was as rude of a person I have ever come across in a âprofessionalâ setting is simply inexcusable and...
