If I could give this school zero stars, I would. This University is a full on corporation. They do not care about students one bit. All they care about is the money. Most of the teachers really do not want to be there and the staff(bursars, finaid, VA, etc..) are not on the same page. They do not seem to have any information about anything, even though the job they were hired for is to be able to provide that information.
I have two separate experiences with this place. First, I applied to use my VA benefits, I think in 2013. The lady gave me an excuse about, since I was Pre-Business I couldn't get it. So I had to withdraw. The next year I applied and I was able to use it with no problem. So I basically had to postpone going to school because someone lied or just didn't care to do the proper research.
Second, this year, 2016. I started school for the spring and I decided I was going to go ahead and take out loans to finish school. So, I took out a loan to pay for books and tuition. I was waiting for my check, because we were heading into the 3rd week of school and I needed my books. So I called the Bursars and Finaid office. Bursars told me that they automatically add the loan to the tuition. I said, are books not a part of tuition and the girl said yes, but I think you would have to talk to the bookstore about that. Worng! So, I went and withdrew from my classes again and filled out the proper forms to decline the loan. Then, I went onto my loan account and realized UTC had taken some money out of the loan I declined to pay for the classes I had already withdrew from. School is an embarrassment and now I have to find another school outside of the...
Read moreI will be graduating soon from UTC with a bachelor’s engineering degree. I have nothing but positive things to say about this school! Unfortunately, I did not get involved in any extracurricular activities such as the frat life or clubs but I’ve had some great experiences and made some great friends. Beautiful city, good sized campus, lots of things todo, great staff and amazing professors. Every professor I’ve had wants you to succeed and is always there for when you need support. Lastly, I’d like to mention the only downsides I’ve noticed in my past four years… Crime. Crime is a common thing in a city of course so this shouldn’t be a surprise. Occasionally some tomfoolery is going on a certain road, that most students know what road Im talking about. As long as you’re cautious most likely will not have an issues. Not to mention some crazy things that can happen on campus. This is very rare but occasional harassment from the homeless. One time man walking around with a shotgun and they had the entire campus shut down. You know just Chattanooga things. In all seriousness this is a great school. it’s bitter sweet knowing I will be graduating...
Read moreIt was the prefect school for me because the class sizes were relatively small but the atmosphere of the campus felt like a "big school". I loved going to the Roundhouse and watching my Mocs play the likes of Ohio State,Georgia,Vandy, UTK, and even Indiana. Free all you can eat pancakes the night before finals, you can't beat that! Also, the financial aid process was a breeze. Not sure if she's still there but Rachel R. probably saved me 15k by going out of her way to find grants and scholarships that I didn't even know existed. As for the locale, you are literally 5mins away from Georgia, so a weekend Atlanta roadtrip is feasible. You really don't need a car to enjoy the city, UTC is right next door to Downtown and Coolidge Park. What I loved most about the Scenic City is that there was always something to do for the "outdoorsy types".You can be muddy in a cave in the morning, taking a train tour in the afternoon, and enjoying Riverbend that evening. The only takeaway was making my daily trek up and down Cardiac Hill(phew!), those who attended know...
