We went there last night. First time customer at this grocery store. We liked the look of it. It reminds us of Loblaws in Canada, which we really liked. It seems to be lots of sales in store. A card is needed to get the sales and employees were helpful in showing us how to sign up. However, be aware of false advertisement / price deceptions / misplacement of the sales tags though. I thought the sushi was on sale for $5.99 (the whole processed food section was covered by sale tags for these $9.99 a tray sushi’s. It appears to be all these different types were on sales, since no regular price tags were seen), but this salmon avocado one was charged full price. There was also a huge sale tag right in front of the 85% ground beef, where I grabbed mine but no sale at the checkout either. The only thing I can prove is that they did not honor the special yellow tagged price of the scallops: the receipt shows they clearly charged $8.81 but it should have been $7.86. In retrospect, I should have returned these questioned items & taken pictures of these sale labels at the store as proof here. Be careful!

I don't usually shop here but came for Gardein Nashville Hot chickenless tenders because they don't have them at Demoulas aka Market Basket. When I got home I read the date. They are over 3 months expired. So if you choose to buy your food at Stop and Shop, make sure you read all the expiration dates yourself before you spend your hard-earned money on old food.

This store used to be great, unfortunately they are price gougers now, hiding exploitative pricing under the national narrative of inflation. That is, while yes grocery prices have increased over 10% during the past 12 months according to BLS CPI component "food at home", Stop & Shop raised their prices far and away beyond this rate in order to take advantage of their customers.

We used to shop here on a near weekly basis and we are now primarily Market Basket customers. It is obvious that many have made this switch, as the number of cars at Stop & Shop has declined while the Market Basket across the street has many more customers at the same time. When we swapped to Market Basket, buying the same general items weekly saved us on average about 20% off our weekly grocery bill.

Here are some items to compare: Cooked rotisserie chicken, $7.99 at Stop & Shop versus $4.69 at Market Basket, yes the MB chicken is a bit smaller but it tastes much better. A dozen organic eggs, $6.39+ at Stop & Shop versus $3.50 to $4 at Market Basket. Top round beef, $3.99/lb at MB versus $7.99/lb at S&S. These are all regular, non sale prices I have seen recently.

One big thing that killed S&S was you used to be able to get good deals if you shopped the sales and weren't picky about brand name or store label. Now, there is less sales and the sales there are really aren't much of a discount compared to what they used to be. So it's a double whammy on top of them jacking the prices for everything sky high far and away beyond the rate of inflation. Truly not sure why anybody...

I worked and shopped at this store for an entire year before I realized I would never go back again. First of all, the stuff that matters. The meat department is a crock of crap. The "Certified Angus" you pay at least $1.00/lb more for is, in reality, choice beef that looked the best. I did the ordering, and we never ordered "CAB" ANYTHING. The "fresh stew" is yesterday's roasts and steaks, and the chicken smells like it sat in it's own juices for weeks (which it has). So don't waste your money on the "quality" of the meat department, as far as "store brand" goes, it's the same as market basket. The RAW seafood load arrives to the store on TOP of the FRESH PRODUCE, often with cracks and breaks in the packaging. Make your own decisions about that one.

Now, to the employees. First of all, the company starts you off at $8.00/hr. Under minimum wage. Let's just say, they only do $8.00/hr worth of work, and care less than that. The attention that one would prefer in a grocery business is abandoned due to the sub-par skill level of almost every employee from part-time to upper level management. Overall the ignorance and arrogance of the "guys in suits" taking over the store on most days subtracts from any appeal a customer would have of the store.

All in all, there was never a day I walked out of this store without the urge to commit harm to...
