Tavern in the Square — Restaurant in Lowell

I have to give this place one star. This restaurant is very racist. The first time I went to this establishment my coworkers and I ordered one drink and two shots. We were not loud or even remotely drunk and the waitress just brought out the check without even asking would we like anything else. When we inquired about maybe ordering one more drink she said it’s a cap and we reached our limit. When I asked some of the residents here they informed me this has never happened to them. Remind you they are not African Americans. Today, I went back to this establishment bc some of my other coworkers wanted to go here and even though I was hesitant I wanted to at least try to see if things would be different. Needless to say, it was not!! We was all asked for our ID because we was ordering drinks but of course we me being the only African American in the entire restaurant once my ID was given to verify age to order a drink I was asked to give an credit card with my name on it as well since “ I’m out of state”. I have traveled many places and never been asked such a thing. Since when a credit card is needed with your license to show proof so you can order a drink. Not only did she want my credit card with my ID to show proof, she had to take it to show her manager!! Tell me how does this make any sense. A license that has my name, birthday and picture for proof but yet you want a credit card with just my name on it. It was clearly obvious to the point one of my coworkers stated they have a New Hampshire license but that is acceptable bc as the waitress stated “it’s there sister state.” I will never come back to this restaurant again and I suggest if you African American you don’t come as well!! Hi and welcome to another episode of javing it with Javier. Let's see what we are javing today. For starters, we have the fried calamari and sweet and spicy Korean ribs. Our main dish is a breakfast burger and fries. Let's jump right into this review.

Not much to say about the calamari; it was fairly average. The sweet and spicy Korean ribs were more sweet than they were spicy (just the way I like them) and the meat was fairly tender too. I was very excited when I read the menu description of the breakfast burger, and wow was this burger big. However, right under it was a pool of grease and oil. Biting into it, all I could really taste was the amount of oil it was drenched in. The fries on the other hand were surprisingly good, but I didn't finish them since the burger filled me up.

We were served by multiple waiters and waitresses and the general service was pretty good. They even made sure to give us fresh utensils and napkins for our main dishes.

For what you are paying for the burger, I say they give you a large portion of food. I've spent more on places with smaller burgers and less fries. However, that burger was just too heavy for me and I will not try it again. Nor will I try any other burger for a while because of this experience.

In conclusion, I had a fairly average experience here. Nothing throughout the night really stood out to me. I don't recommend the breakfast burger though. And that's it for today's episode of javing it with Javier. And remember...

I usually don't write any reviews, but I'll have to say this is the worst experience I ever had. The bartender that was serving me seemed like she was having a bad day, but I don't let things like that get to me and being in a offsetting mood shouldn't be spread to anyone especially the customers. We ordered one round of drinks and everything was fine. We then ordered a 2nd round of drinks. The order for the 2nd round of drinks was incorrect, but it's not a big deal and we didn't mind at all. Now she then tells us that we have to wait 10 minutes if we wanted to order a 3rd round of drinks. I've never heard of this before, but we complied. After waiting for 10 minutes, I've asked for another round and she then tells us that we're cut off and immediately walks away. I was completely lost on what happened. We weren't being obnoxious or rowdy so I really don't understand what was going. Her lack of explanation for not serving us did not help at all. Yet, we see that she was serving multiple other parties at the bar many rounds of drinks. I had spoken to the manager and he had no credibility on the reasons why she refuse to serve us. Now I come across yelp and noticed that this location has 3.3 stars and this probably explains it all. This organization lost myself and many others as customers and we will no longer accept this intolerable behavior.
