I have lived in the south Loop near the target there before the target was ever constructed. So I have been a long time customer. Before online became a predominant way of shopping, I used to shop in store quite a bit. But as my schedule became more crowded, I started shopping online quite a bit. I’ve always trusted Target to be a reliable shopping vendor until now. after my most recent move within the south loop, I placed a $100 order online with target to be picked up after work with their drive and go option. I made a point of keeping my purchases under $100. At the same time target aggressively promoted throughout its app a $15 promotional gift card based on purchasing $50 of qualifying select home products. As luck would have it those were exactly what I was looking for. And as if to make the process easier, target had a listing of all of the qualifying home products available for customers. I knew I could use that $15 gift card at some point between now and Christmas for some additional purchase. So I made a point of selecting $50 worth of qualifying select home products, actually I selected approximately $55 worth of products. as a lawyer with 25 years experience, I’m not only read the fine print and promotions like this. I typically write them. I read very closely that the gift card would be sent to my email after the purchase was made. There was no other fine print to be found. when I went to purchase my order, it told me that my total was $96.63.. I completed my order, went to target and my order was brought out to my car. At that point I had forgotten to even look for the gift card. The very next day I was looking at my checking account statement and curiously saw two separate charges from target. One was for the products I purchased for $96.63 and a separate charge was made for $15 I knew for certain that I had not made any other charges last evening for any amount, especially for $15. I went back to my Target app to see if I could figure out what had happened. Fortunately, the evidence was there in black-and-white. My order number suspiciously had two invoices, even though I had made one large purchase. The second invoice was for all of the products I purchased that totaled $96.53.. The first invoice, however, literally said that it was a charge for a promotional gift card from target for $50 of home product purchases. The invoice also clearly showed that this gift card was charged to the same debit card as my other purchases. I then went to check to see whether I ever received the gift card and in fact, I had. I was truly confused as to why target would advertise a promotional gift card for the purchase of select qualifying items and then charge you for the value of that “gift “card and then turn around and give you a gift card. I had a very long intense conversation with two representatives from target including a very patient manager, who listened to every logic problem I pointed out with the system. it turns out that unbeknownst to customers, target was deducting a portion of the gift card value, as I was adding products to my cart, though I was unable to see that. Therefore, it felt justified in recouping that expense by placing an unauthorized charge on my debit card. Then in order to make me whole it gave me a gift card that I can only use at target after taking money from my checking account where I could’ve used anywhere. I explained to the manager that I never would have participated in any such promotion. Had I known that there would be unauthorized debit from my account because I only selected items from a predetermined list and I likely could’ve found less expensive items from the full inventory of target’s store. I felt completely deceived and ripped off the manager tried to explain to me that online gift cards don’t work the same way as in-store gift cards. I explained to him that online gift cards don’t work at all. There is absolutely no benefit to them. I was positively shocked that this is somehow legal in many states. I told the gentleman that I had lost all...
Read moreThis is consistently the worst Target I have ever been to. Which is unfortunate since it is a block from my home. When I first moved in for the longest time this was the only Target that I shopped at and I just assumed that the entire chain's standards had gone downhill. Then I visited other locations in the city and realized the problems lie in this specific store. The shelves are always a disheveled mess and the staff, while usually pretty friendly, seem extremely spread thin. There is always a long line for check out, even at the self check lanes. There are never shopping baskets available at the entrance so you have to go sneak into the checkout lane to grab one off the giant pile that the employees should be moving back to the entrance. My biggest gripe is that every single time I have stopped in here, at least one item I was seeking was out of stock. For example, Makoto salad dressing. This is an item that I specifically look for at Target since no other stores carry it. I have seen it at this store maybe three times. Many other times I go to look for it and there is none. I assumed they simply stopped carrying it but there is always an empty slot on the shelf with a tag for this product. Every time I stop in to another store they are fully stocked and I make sure to grab several bottles. My understanding of retail is that every inch of shelf space is extremely valuable real estate. The fact that they let is sit empty like this should be a huge red flag for Target corporate (it's not just salad dressing it's many many other products as well.) My most disgusting story from this store is the time I bought a water pick. Of course the shelves were picked clean and multiple models were out of stock. The display models had all been trashed by children and adults who behave like children. I still knew which one I wanted and managed to find one on the shelf. I bring it home and open it up and find all of the plastic packaging had been hastily ripped open and all of the pieces were wet. That's right, this store sold me USED dental hygiene equipment! They gave me a refund and their sympathies but needless to say I didn't want to roll the dice on trying to buy another one here. This is a very busy store always filled with customers, so they probably justify their poor reviews by saying they are just too busy to keep up. But just go to the State street store. That place is always jam packed but still manage to stay clean and stocked (even on salad dressing.) They have helpful employees everywhere and plenty of...
Read moreVery negative experience with Target Clinic. I went there for unknown reason fever. First they told me they couldn't see me because i didn't have my insurance card physically. I have the mobile app which has my card front and back image. I can email or my insurance company can fax to them with one click. It works everywhere I've been to. But Target would send me home to get the card. I asked to speak to a supervisor because I was in pain and I already made the trip here, a 30 minutes drive back and forth wouldn't help with my illness. So I was told to wait, then the supervisor came. She asked about my symptoms, then told me that I needed to get blood count test from one of their connected emergency care - That sounded scary. I thought I might have something I could die from. The next thing she said added to that fear: No over-the-counter medicine can help, you need to get to the urgent care. I had second thought about that, but as discomfort as I was, I couldn't think too much. So I drove to the closest one she recommended. Saw the doctor and the doctor simply said: it is viral infection, you just need to rest well and ride it out. "What about the blood count that Target Clinic said I should get checked?" I asked. The doctor said: no you don't need one. Jeez! If the supervisor could've just said no to me because of the insurance card, I would not end up going to the emergency care for just simple viral infection. Who knows how much this visit would cost me! Ironically, the doctor at the urgent care recommended me to take over-the-counter Tylenol and Ibuprophen. I'm frustrated that my average spending at Target is $600-$800 a month, consider me as a profitable customer, why can't they be more courteous and empathetic when I need help? Not mentioning they gave me very misleading information and cost me money unnecessarily. Through my several years experience living in the city and have no other choice but Target, its service has always been disappointing. We need more competitors in the city to break the monopoly and problems...
