My father and I love this place. It is nice that it is in a local area to me. But my father drives about 45 minutes to get over to my spot so we can get over to Hard Times to PLAY A TABLE for a couple of hours or more. I think coming from a different county to hit up a place like this with one right around the corner from my father means a lot.
I want everybody to know about this place. My Daddy has been playing pool since he was about 11 or 12 years old. He started teaching me when I was about 12 years old and my brothers were five and six. Guess what? His brothers and sisters also hit the tables. My Aunt Sheri lives and Philly but she's a trucker and so cannot just get here when she wants. She's waiting for a job that will send her here to California so then that way my father, my kid brother, I and my Aunt Sheri can challenge each other on a table or two.
We declared a challenge about 3 months ago and we smack each other about it every time we talk to each other. And let me tell you. We have been to a lot of different Billiards, named for short. However, it is Hard Time Billiards that we are going to go to every time she comes this way. We have to practice in between because my Aunt Sheri and her husband can crack a table and hit six balls in pockets like it's nothing. You all be blessed now okay and listen to the words...
Read moreI was really impressed. It's a lot nicer on the inside than the name might suggest. It had good lighting, pool tables and cues were good. The balls were round and only quibble was that the numbers on balls were hard to read and almost led me to scratch!
When I went, there was an actual pool tournament going on. I thought that was cool, and I was still able to play on my own at a table while it was going on. The staff were friendly - the guy at the bar was talkative and he told me and my date about the tournament and players there.
The bar did not have those cherries to make Shirley Temple or Roy Rogers. I am sure I am only person in last five years at least to ask for such drinks.
I would say more accurate name of this place would be Great/Fntastic/IncredibleTimes Billiards, but Hard Times is awesome name - maybe it's accurate for whoever...
Read moreTerrible service and not well cared for tables, though maybe sadly be the best in Sacramento. Service so terrible, that the man at the register told me that if I wanted my military discount, which I'd just learned existed by asking, I'd have to tell him when I check in. All because it was too much effort he said if he did that for everyone who asked... I'm sorry sir that you don't have time to save the vets a little money after what they've done for you... Then when my girlfriend approached to ask a question, instead of answering, he points to a big wall of random signs and posters. I will not be recommending this establishment to anyone. Spent a few hours playing pool here, and this was not a surprising ending based on the service during the stay unfortunately. Go to corner pocket. They have better food and a...
