The only reason I’m giving two stars is because the toe rings that I PURCHASED were cute. We stopped into Tom’s to see if we could find some unique gifts for the members of our bridal party. We browsed around and ultimately decided that nothing there was really what we were looking for. While we were in the back corner of the store, an employee very obviously came back just to make sure my fiancé wasn’t pocketing anything under the guise of her fluffing some dresses up on the rack. I noted that but ignored it and headed back to the front of the store and browsed the ring selection. I’ve been looking for toe rings everywhere and I was hype to find a small selection of maybe 10 of them stuck on a little foam foot. I picked the little display up to remove the two I was interested in and headed to the front to ask for pricing on them since they weren’t marked anywhere. The girl at the front told me the price and I headed back to the shelf. Another employee materialized next to me and immediately asked for me to put the display down, after I selected the third ring that I wanted to purchase I did. As soon as I stepped to the side she backtracked to each case of rings I had looked through and counted or looked for anything missing. She then followed me around the corner of the display where I was looking at their ear cuffs and she said “so.. like are there any rings that you’d like me to hold onto?” At this point, between the signs every 2 feet reminding you that you’re on camera and that they “will prosecute shoplifters,” and with being treated like a thief while I’m trying to support their business, I’m annoyed. I tell the employee “It seems like YOU would prefer it if you held onto them, so go ahead.” And I gave her the rings. My fiancé and I were going to just leave and say forget it, they don’t need our business, but again— haven’t been able to find the toe rings I was looking for anywhere else, so I still got them.
Pro tip— instead of treating your customers like they’re thieves, lock the stuff up in a case if you have that much bad luck with jewelry walking out of your store—that experience was off putting and truly left a bad taste in my mouth. Not sure when the next time I’ll spend my money...
Read moreI bought a ring from Tom's a few weeks ago for a back up secret santa, for the weekend of December 2nd. This was my first time in the store since I've heard such nice things about it. My boyfriend even bought me a nice flavored bottle of honey from here and we were so excited to come back here together. Aside from choosing this ring which took us about 30 minutes, we also bought some truffles and a caramel cashew candy. I was even able to use my student discount for 20% off which was awesome. The person ended up not coming for the secret santa, so I had no use for the ring anymore but unfortunately I lost my receipt. When I came back to try to return about 2 weeks later, the initial employee didn't think it would be a problem and she was very kind but had to call the manager. When I presented this ring I explained to the manager the situation and also let her know I used the student discount, while she was inspecting the ring. She said we would need a receipt- which I get every store has a policy. I also even presented the option that Tom's advertises which is to buy " gold and silver"- to which she said it would've had to be marked - which I understand as well.
My problem with the manager is that she quickly lost patience then said in a loud and nasty tone in front of a long line and crowded store " THIS DOES NOT EVEN LOOK LIKE ONE OF OURS". I was so embarrased and even offered to look back through the ring selection since I noticed during my 30 minute browsing a few weeks prior there were duplicates in different sizes. Her statement made me feel low and embarrased; like I was trying to scam her or be dishonest. She was very rude and unfortunately although I really enjoyed this store, I will no longer be supporting this...
Read moreIf I had posted a review of Tom’s even two months ago, they would have received 5/5 stars from me. While I still love their products, an awful experience has completely changed my view and support of this establishment. I am a recent college graduate working as a full time, well paid, professional in town. I believe in the importance of supporting local business and chose to stay in this area post-graduation to give back to the community which supported and invested in me during my years as a student. Two friends and I were accused of stealing an item of jewelry from this shop, after having spent over $100. We were contacted by an employee over social media regarding the incident. I called the shop, confused and concerned, wanting to have a conversation. I was screamed at by the employee over the phone, received a lecture on my choice of friends, and was unable to get in a word edgewise. We offered to immediately come to the shop for an in-person conversation and were yelled at upon arriving at Tom’s. I called later to try and reach the store owner, a message was taken, and my call never returned. The shop owners cannot even say exactly what they believe to be missing. This was one of my favorite shop’s and now I will no longer be a customer at this establishment. This was not a professional way to handle this situation nor a way to establish loyal clientele. I am very disappointed by how this situation was handled and really sad to no longer be able to purchase the items I love or...
