Calling Alan was one of the best decisions I have ever made. He saved something for me that could never have been replaced. I had a WD MyCloud server unit that went brick during a firmware upgrade. WD didn't want to do much by way of honoring the warranty on it, so I decided to take things into my own hands, as I usually do. I learned that the unit had a standard SATA drive inside, and that it could be controlled by Linux. I have a desktop with some auxiliary ports available, so I cracked open the server and popped the hard drive into the desktop. I fired up Linux, and started transferring the junk files to another drive. I figured i would move my music and movies first in case there was an issue, i wouldnt lose my family photos, videos, and documwnts. BIG MISTAKE! All was good...for a while. There was a power failure just after I had finished the end of the movie files and was getting ready to move the photos. I booted the computer, and it saw the drive, but it could no longer access. I was devastated. All I could think was that I had destroyed my history over my independence. The drive sat for a year, as I tried to decide who to trust with any attempt to fix the problem. I have taken drives to Geek Squad in the past, and way too much money and time later, they returned bits and pieces of my data, along with some of their bloat ware. No way was I sending it there. I hit up Google, and found Detor Computer Services. He had great reviews. Something told me to call him, so I did. He was attentive. He discussed the issue in a way that most people could understand. He was honest about my prospects and the potentially associated costs. Needless to say, his service was able to retrieve the better part of a Terabyte of data, without losing a single file! The drive was toast, but they still got all of my data back...and probably kept my wife from killing me! I've told anybody who is having computer concerns about Alan and his work! As always, a damaged computer is hit or miss for recovery, but your best bet is to call Detor Computer Services.
Side note: Don't pay any mind to Tom Peace's review. Yes, his business is out of his house. His house is actually pretty nice. He does answer his door, and if he doesn't, his dog does! The dog is a big "kitten"! It's a shame to have somebody give such an uninformed, negative reviews, when Alan described the location situation in great detail for me. I had no trouble...
Read moreHIGHLY RECOMMENDED Alan is the most proficient computer technician I have ever let work on any personal computer or hardware of mine, and I MEAN that. I've worked as a technician in the military. That is why I can say with complete confidence that as a service provider, the level of discipline, respect, expertise and proficiency Alan commands supersedes the quality of care and standards of excellence I have seen in the field. When my computer crashed on my birthday, Alan was there. No gimmicks, no string attached, and no promises but the truth. He ascertained the problem and offered solutions without coercion. He gave me several days time to decide how I wanted to proceed. I wanted my data extracted instead of having my computer repaired at a fair cost. It would be some time before I would receive a new laptop and again, Alan patiently with my extracted data for how to proceed. After all my data was on my new laptop, and I came to collect both my new and old computer, I had forgot to ask how I could safely discard the old device with my data on it. Alan waived the charges to destroy my hard drive and recycle my laptop out of consideration for me. A testament to customer service and client satisfaction came when I was trying to run my laptop (just moments ago) with my data on it. My new laptop was not behaving the way it had prior to getting my data back on it and I called Alan in a big panic. Alan was patient, calm, and coached me through the situation which of course, happened to be nothing but coincidence. I really appreciated Alan's honest and straightforward service and most of all, the kindness and professionalism he showed me. If you're having issues with your computer, Alan Detor should be your first choice. I know he is...
Read moreDescription of work: Correct problems on both my desk top and lap top computers. Both were slow and crashed now and again. Alan performed trouble shooting, his spring specials for virus removal and PC tune up and installed Emsisoft Anti-Malware on both, replacing an ineffective Webroot system that allowed Viruses, Trojans and Malware infections. Clean up computer interior (desk top) and user profile. Remove Virus, Trojan and Malware infections, booekits and rootkits. Scan with professional virus removal tools. Repair damaged operating system files to original condition for laptop not able to do with desk top. Alan indicated some operating system files for desktop could not be repaired. He recommended re-installing Windows 7 if any problems persist. Because of the damage, internet explorer is slow and erratic, however the new web browser he installed on both, âMozilla Firefoxâ is working great, and thank god it appears I do not need to re-install Windows. Clean and remove useless registry, entries and optimize. Remove all temp files and unwanted startup program entries. Defrag hard drive with professional software. Replace bloated anti-virus as indicated above.
My Comments: I checked for two or three computer repair companies and so glad we selected Detor. Alan was exceptional, professional and prompt. When he indicated times for free pick up (within 10 miles) or return computers, he was there. He answered questions, recommended solutions, his expertise is well above my expectations; I am no computer whiz, far from it. Both computers are fast now and appear to be operating the way they should, probably better than when I first got them. I am planning to sign up for their âMonthly Careâ program (MCS) for...
