Shameful, unprofessional, and inconsiderate staff caused me to cancel my long time membership.
I understood the rules with COVID and the state mask mandates. Including the exemptions in regards to health issues. Both me and my spouse wear our masks as required.
As we were entering the store, just like we have multiple times before, me and my spouse wearing masks. We were singled out of the large group entering and were prevented from entering the store due to the fact my minor son was not wearing a mask. I explained he is below the age group of the states mask order and he is also exempt due to health issues. All would be oK, and we would have went on with our to be large shopping trip, if the stopping was as simple as explaining the health exemption of the child. Unfortunately this was not the case. The door staff were very unprofessional and extremely inconsiderate regarding the wellbeing of my child. It was almost like they despised children in their store, there were several adults who were let in without masks that were not confronted but for some reason my son could not enter with out one on. The older gentleman that stopped us displayed actions that are shameful to the company’s so called values. His comments were disgustful, completely inappropriate and out of bounds of his duties. The 2 main comments he stated that ended my relationship with Costco were: #1 When I stated that my son has health issues, and that a mask would be dangerous to his wellbeing. He replied very aggressively “What health conditions does he have, he looks good to me” That question is a direct violation of HIPAA. And should have never been asked, I answered his question in hopes to quickly resume shopping. Stating he has severe asthma and the mask would be detrimental to his breathing capabilities. #2 After replying to his HIPAA question. He suggested the most disgusting and out right dangerous resolution of “If he cant wear a mask you should leave the kids in the vehicle, that’s the better option.” So apparently leaving children in a vehicle unattended is a better option than them entering the store. I was unable to Cancel my membership in store, as we were unable to enter, even though mask less adults could, But calling to cancel was quick and easy, and they offered a refund of the...

The membership verification process does become rather invasive and redundant! You are carded in order to enter the store, you are carded to go to the membership desk (which you need to be able to get to in order to purchase a membership in the first place?!), you are carded to go to the food court, you are carded at the cash register, and then you are inspected when you exit with your purchases. It becomes tedious and frankly insulting being treated every step of the way through the consumer process as if you are a potential criminal. Let break this down. Carding for entry doesn't make any sense when I can simply walk in with a group or I can accompany someone else who has a card without having to be a member myself. This whole entire process is inconvenient and completely pointless considering that A:) a huge % of people inside the store are non members who simply walked in with other members, and B:) you cant actually purchase anything at the cash register without a membership anyways. Just let people in, they wont be able to reap member benefits without a membership at the check stand anyways. Then exiting the store through the TSA style "security check point"... lets not get me started on that. Watching the 1 or 2 associates pretend to count all 100+ items in your cart in 1.5 seconds right before drawing a happy face is so annoying. All this is called "Security Theater" and does nothing to increase security and only creates an inconvenience to the customer.
Definition of security theater: "Security theater is the practice of investing in countermeasures intended to provide the feeling of improved security while doing little or nothing to achieve it."
All-in-all I guess that I feel the benefits of shopping at Costco outweighs the annoyances and inconveniences of Costco's...
Read moreCustomer service issues big time. We had a mattress delivered and checked the box to have our old mattress taken away. The delivery guys were leaving our home without taking our mattress and we told them we selected to have them take our old mattress. They said they don't do that. We said they need to change the form then (they were two young guys-so I assumed they just didn't care or something). We then got a confirmation email that our mattress was delivered. It was signed by them! The confirmation email also had sections asking if the product was tested and working. They put yes even though the product was in the box (untested or setup). The confirmation form also asked if all packaging was removed from the home. They put yes, again, despite this not being the case. We then immediately called Costco to let them know our mattress wasn't taken as we asked. They apologized and gave us the number of the company who would come get it. I've called him 4 times and haven't heard. I then called Costco back to try and get this sorted out. They told me a pickup guy would be calling me in two business days or so. I let them know it has almost been a month waiting for our mattress to be picked up. If I had a truck I woulda have done this myself. Costco is usually great (minus the mask law) but this customer service fiasco has been pretty poor....
