Smith & Mendoza Salon — Local services in Coral Gables

I am truly saddened and heartbroken to have to write this review. This is due to me knowing Jesse and Jessica for quite a few years ( I was a hairstylist and we worked together) and have been their client for few a years also. To start let me explain; I am currently 3 months postpartum and waited 4 years to dye my hair. I was ready for a change. My husband offered to ask for the day off and stay with the kids while I go to the salon since we both knew it would be a long process. I sent Jesse a picture of what I wanted and specified I only wanted full head of highlights, no dark root, no haircut and blow dry. He advised me his price was $300. Perfect!

I show up my appointment we start talking usual. The process took 9 hours. During this time my foils expanded because there was some sort of chemical reaction, the bleach bleeded through the foil and made bleach spots all over my hair and scalp. He tells me this and that he has to do a dark root as a consequence to that. So, my choices were either bleach spots or dark root. Once he is done, he advises he will blow dry; again, something I did not want. He advised “you will be all done by the time you get out of here.” Well, when it was time to pay; he charged me $300 full head of highlights, $80 shadow root and $30 for the blow dry and he is telling me this as if he is giving me a special price for the blow dry I did not want. The lighting in the salon I did not see anything well there, it was also nighttime by now and I had to go home to attend to my newborn child. This was already 9 hours in the salon.

Once I get home, I see my hair WHITE from brunette to complete gray hair white I messaged him advising him I was not happy with the color. The next day he calls me and tells me that he can fix it; to just tone it meanwhile. That he would be able to see a week from that date. Not only that my husband would have to take the day off again. I advised him the shadow technique was not done properly and the color was not good; like black and white.

I decide to tone it at home, and I was able to feel the damage on my hair. My hair is destroyed. I had to cut off about 6 inches of it and the breakage is still noticeable closer to the scalp. My hair cannot handle any more color to even get this disaster fixed.

My husband decides to write a bad review due to being upset at the whole situation and I was still in shock of my hair, my experience and how disappointed I am. Immediately one of the owners- Jessica messages me. That she is disappointed, that Jesse is willing to fix it but on the days he is able to, and that I should be more understanding since I was a hairstylist. I wrote back explaining to her my disappointment and inconvenience. She kindly apologized for the message she sent .

To the date Jesse advised he can fix it if I come in within 2 weeks and on the days he is available to fix them. Not caring that those days are days my husband has to take off and the inconvenience is creating to us. I am appalled by this horrible experience I have had and in the condition my hair was left in. I feel taken advantage of and not taken care of as a Client. I will not be going back. I wish them the best but hopefully they take better care of...

I have been getting my hair colored by Jessie and my haircut by Jessica for 1 yr 1/2. They are both amazing at their job . I’m very cautious of letting someone color my hair because of fear of it getting damaged , however , I fully trust Jessie . I always leave happy with my color results and my hair feels and looks healthy. Jessica’s amazing hands have also contributed to my healthy looking hair . When I first went to cut my hair , my hair looked uneven in the back with a big thinning gap in the middle . After a yr and half the gap is barely noticeable . I don’t like to cut much of the length so Jessica has cut it little by little per my request. I love that she listens and does what the client asks for . I never feel pushed into doing something to my hair that I don’t want to do as other stylists attempt to do. Since she has been cutting my hair it has grown and has become fuller then ever. The salon environment is clean, relaxing, and friendly . I don’t remember the name of the lady that washes my hair but she’s also amazing , while waiting with my 10 minute conditioning treatment she provides the best head/forehead massage. You are greeted and offered an expresso that I have heard other clients rave about. I have not had a chance to try it as I don’t drink coffee later in the day, but I look forward to trying it. I will continue going to this salon and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing colorist and a stylist with the best...

There should not be a single bad review here for these two hard working, super talented artists. If by chance you had an unfavorable experience, you should def revisit, i'm sure you won't be disappointed...

I've been privileged to be a client of these two amazing humans for over 6 years now. I've seen them go from renting chairs at great salons, tiny salons, to owning their own fabulous salon.

Jessica's hands are truly gifted. She has never given me a bad cut. In fact, her cuts seem to get better as weeks go by. I always get 2 or 3 compliments daily on my hair. She is Vidal Sassoon trained, which means she pays attention to the tiniest details. Always super professional, extremely accommodating, and the nicest person on earth. Like the sweetest..

Jesse, is a master colorist. Also, super talented and gifted with his coloring. The way he mixes color and creates a final masterpiece, is like none other. He has been the only person I will ever let touch my hair for color. I trust no-one else.

I would give them 1,000 stars if I could. I recommend them to everyone. I have friends that travel from Boca to come here and get their glam on with these two. To me, this is the best hair salon in miami, hands down. You won't be disappointed ever. I know...
